Doc posted an offer for $79 r/t fare back on 2/7/01. Thought that I saw something in my mailbox as well...but can't seem to find it. Did this expire, or is it ongoing using some bonus code to register? Delta has a similar promo that is still going. Anyone know what's up?

perhaps you are thinking of the systemwide sales with with some segment fares at $79:
http://www.usairways.com/promotions/specials/system_sale.htm

though delta does have the shuttle special: 800 number: 1-800-325-1447
mention offer code: 07712
travel from 7pm friday to 2:30pm sunday
offer good for travel from jan 26-may 13

There was a shuttle sale for weekend flights between the usual LGA, BOs and DCA (+ IAD too) but the sale ended quickly. The OP snoozed so he loozed.

still looking for the matching deal with USairways. Am I dreaming, or did they match this? $79 r/t is a pretty good deal, especially if I can couple that with two 4 segment r/t's to get silver status in a challenge. Of course I can fly Delta, but why bother when Silver Medallion means so little?

It's not $79 round trip. It's $79 "each way based on required round-trip purchase" -- a clever way that US Airways has of advertising low fares that are, in reality, not available. (You can't get this ticket for $79.)

United has renounced this method of pricing promotional fares, and I really wish US Airways would follow suit. I've written them about it and gotten no response.

Would you like it if you went to a shoe store and the prices shown were "per shoe, based on purchase of a pair"? So that you had to do the math every time you looked at a pair of shoes? No? Then why do we put up with this from the airlines?

Us had an internet only fare that expired about a week ago that featured round-trip rates in shuttle markets of around $100 give or take $10/$20 with tax, etc. US no longer offers this fare, yet, as per above, Delta is offering an unpublished promo fare. US is not matching this as far as I know. DL tends to send out post cards announcing these promotional fares, but you don't need the post card to ticket. The DL fare is good until about 5/13 or so. Travel Friday after 7PM, until 3PM Sunday. Sometimes you can actually take a later Sunday flight per the discretion of the DL agent. I used a similar offer many times last summer, and in practice, would usually fly back Sunday night. If you are friendly with anyone at your US shuttle station, they do offer a fare for like 2-13 year-olds which is about $49 each way. Since they are not matching the DL unpublished offer, an agent could issue you a ticket for that child fare if it is still around. I had a similar situation at LGA years ago. I went up to the DL counter, and they were not matching some sort of US offer. I had just gotten to LGA after drinking in a bar. I kept calmly saying that I would prefer to fly on the DL shuttle, but that US had this better fare. We went back and forth for 15 minutes, again remaining friendly and calm but firm on both sides. Then, once all the other pax had left the counter, the agent sort of whispered "we're going to honor a $39 child fare....how do you want to pay," and I gave the agent my card. She documented the PNR that they were honoring the fare "due to res agent error," and I was off on a flight for $39! She told me that she did it because I remained calm, and she did not want to do it in front of others because "our pax are very smart," and she didn't want evry New Yorker and there brother to really know the broad discretion they really have. Thats a long winded answer to whatever your question was, but I hope it answered it anyway.

Jetsetter, so I guess it'll only be every New Yorker who reads this board that knows about the broad discretion they have, eh? http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/tongue.gif Just kidding. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif

If this is the same as Dl's fare, it works out to a net fare of $90.50 rt incl taxes etc. You no longer have to call the DL special promotions desk to get it on them, it's now bookable at both the DL and US websites. It should be valid through mid-May, and is good on flights from late Friday through mid-day Sunday. Can be har to get on Friday nite or Sunday afternoon flights, but I just checked US and DL and had no trouble w/ availability for next weekend. If you're looking for a $79 rt fare, "ca n'exist pas"-- maybe someday the airlines in this country will actually advertise the fare you will pay instead of disappointing people by advertising something that doesn't exist! Don't you love the way they pay to advertise $298 to Europe, only to find out it's really $376 after all the surcharges?
