Ok Well I am on a PHL-LAS flight and want to buy Upgades, I am a Silver member, but I dont have the number of upgrades.
#1 Can I buy more, if so how?
#2 Is there ANYWAY at all to confirm an upgrade right away?

Hi, Welcome to Flyertalk. You can purchase 800-mile upgrades, I think a pack of 4 is $120 for an elite member. I believe the only way to confirm an upgrade at the time of purchase is using miles, see: http://www.usairways.com/dividendmiles/redeemingmiles/howtoredeem/upgrades.htm

You can buy upgrades at a CTO or ATO for $40.00 each. The only ways you can upgrade a ticket outside the 1 day silver door is to use a DMUPSYS or cash in 20,000 for an upgrade award.

I hear the view from the top of the Space Needle is over-rated. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/biggrin.gif

Dukie: If you are interested in a mileage run, using your Systemwide Upgrades for a weekend run to Europe is often a good deal this time of year (through March 31st). Chances are you can get roundtrip to London, Paris, or Frankfurt for about $350-400 and then use your upgrades to get into Envoy Class. Try the "flexible travel dates" feature on the US Airways website reservations page to see how low your fares can be...

The spaceneedle IS overrated, but on one November Sunday afternoon, I was up there and a great Jazz band was playing and a make-shift bar was setup. It was a nice treat, considering I had just sort of been tooling around the city after arriving for a Mon. business meeting.

Space Needle stinks. Sorry, I like Seattle but the Needle is a BIG letdown. The Calgary Tower is more interesting and it stinks too. <grin>

For a good tower experience visit CN Tower and go up to the top pod. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif

geo1004, it seems as though you have only heard the Space Needle view is unimpressive. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/eek.gif At least myself, PHL and pitflyer have seen the view to formulate an opininion! http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/wink.gif

Hello US FTers,

I thought the Space Needle was fairly impressive. The access from our hotel was good and parking was fairly convenient which was a concern since my wife was getting over foot surgery at the time.

OK, let's see how far offtopic we can go.. but... The Space Needle is fine as a tower, but it's a pretty pathetic tower as towers go. I'm not sure how many other towers you've gone to, but the Needle is near the bottom of my list...

Just my $.02. Still, it is a symbol of Seattle and one of those things you go to even against your best judgement. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif

If the Space Needle defines your view of Seattle you are in trouble. As a part time Queen Anne resident who can live in any city I choose, I can't think of a more beautiful city anywhere.

I'll try to bring this back on topic....when using upgrade coupons to upgrade a companion, does the companion have to be on the same itinerary?

No. I was recently on a SEA-CLT-DCA flight and was able to upgrade (using my certs) a friend who was on a SEA-CLT-ATL trip. Only for the SEA-CLT portion though. The companion has to be on the same flight(s) with you, not necessarily the same itinerary.

Just became member today. First post was in the thread on the '2001 Preferred Rules' being listed on the website.

Just to repeat my comments there, its funny that they got posted today because I was on the international desk upgrading back from Paris in April, and asking the agent when the new rules would be posted. She was surprised they hadnt been yet (as of 2pm EST).

I am gold preferred from last yrs flying. So the welcome kit (coming soon?) will have more syswide upgrades in it?

What will happen when I 'requalify' for silver/gold this year?

Welcome to FlyerTalk, hscottm! If you received a welcome kit last year after qualifying for Gold for the first time, you should also receive a 2001 kit with systemwides (and they should arrive any day now). However, if/when you requalify this year, you won't receive another kit until around next February.

P.S. Just a side comment, but usually we don't stray as far off topic as we did in this thread. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/wink.gif In general, please try to start a new thread if you're dealing with a subject that hasn't been discussed (recently).

Another way of obtaining 800-mile upgrade cupons (DMUP01) is by cashing in 10,000 FF miles (Award code: USU102) for a set of four. Just make sure you order them from the DM Service desk in advance of your travel (takes about 7-10 days to process and mail).

Ah, thanks, that answers a question I had. I was travelling over the holidays and on the way home decided that I really needed to upgrade (flight w/high kid concentration) but didn't have any certificates with me. For $120 the gate agent gave me an upgrade for the whole flight. In retrospect that works out: 3 tix for PHX to PHL and 1 for PHL to MHT.
