I guess I was being tacky. Thanks for the input.

To those who posted to my initial question: Could please edit your posts to remove anything that reflects the strategy I suggested.

Thanks again.

I was afraid of this.... Simply put, you could call the day you make your reservation, say you're using a DMUPSYS, then show up at the airport with your segment upgrades in hand. The DMUPSYS eliminates the need to call at 12:01 a.m., and ensures you a F class seat. Ethical? You call it.

Well, yes.

Doing this nukes a G seat for another Preferred. If you do this (for discounted coach) way ahead of your 7, 3 or 1 day window, it prevents the seat from being available to someone who can upgrade within their window. Not cool. Further, if enough people do this, I'm sure that loophole will be tied up (like DL has IIRC). So if you want to use the SWU or upgrade award, stick with it and don't convert it to a NAU - there it's confirmable at any time, where the NAU rules are pretty clear. It just doesn't meet the smell test.

We've got great upgrading availability while US still lasts. Let's not screw it up, let UA do that for us.

Mistakes happen, and everyone gets a break once in awhile. It's not my thing to crticize other folks on this board, but by putting up a post like this you do two things. Firstly, you give people ideas, which will lead to upgrade seats being diverted from members who have earned them and, secondly, since it's an open forum, which undoubtedly is seen by the company, you pretty well ensure that they will tighten the upgrade award process.
