View Full Version : NA Upgrade Cert Question

Here is my situation. I had 33k preferred miles accumulated in 2000. In order to receive 4 NA upgrade coupons, it says I have to fly an additional 10k preferred miles above the 25k preferred miles to qualify as silver preferred. If I fly 2k preferred miles this year, will they be combined with the 8k preferred miles I had accumulated towards the requirement for the 4 upgrade coupons last year or does the preferred miles counter go back to zero on 1/1/2001? I realize the preferred milage counter goes back to zero for requalifying as silver preferred but am unsure how it works for getting the upgrade coupons. I am hoping that as long as I remain silver preferred, the preferred mileage counter for upgrade coupons keeps going and never resets. Does anyone know how this exactly works?

Thanks in advance.

The upgrade clock runs 1 March - 28 Feb while the status clock runs on a calender year. You have until end of this month to fly the 2k or whatever to earn the 4 upgrades.

Welcome, MrBill64!

The counter for obtaining upgrades resets on March 1 every year (elite status is good through the end of February). So as long as you fly 2K by the end of February this year, you'll get your upgrade certificates. Otherwise, you'll have to fly 10K Preferred miles sometime between March 2001 and the end of February 2002 to get upgrade certs. Hope this helps!

The calander year (Jan 1 - Dec 31)is used to qualify for prefered status. Qualifying for prefered status in 2000 ended 12/31/00 and any flights taken in Jan or Feb have counted towards accumulation for your 2001 status.

If you earned Silver/Gold/Charman in 1999 it expires on 2/28/2001.
If you earned Silver/Gold/Charman in 2000 it expires om 2/28/2002.

If you are a Silver or Gold you do not hve to reach the plateau milage again to continue getting upgrades every 10K miles but I am not sure when the 10K counter reset's at the beginning of the year or at the end of Feb. Since I made chairman again in 2000 I don't have to worry about certs, at least not until the dreaded merger goes through
