In January my wife and I are flying RDU-PHL-SAN-PHL-RDU. Would this be considered a transcontinental flight?
From PHL to SAN it's listed as a 6 hour 4 minute flight on a A320. We're thinking about using Systemwides to upgrade.

Yup - PHL-SAN-PHL would be transcon - full meals, movies, etc. On a 320, first should be nice - I've enjoyed those seats on a 319 CLT-PHX. Well, I'd suggest using miles before the Systemwide - but if you're not going to Europe, then go ahead.
Have fun.

Just remember, meal choices are taken from front to back westbound and back to front the other direction. If it matters to you, seat yourselves accordingly.

Don't count on the back-to-front order taking westbound. I've flown SEA-CLT/PIT 2x and they took it from the front.

I do a few transcon flights - I have NEVER seen them do orders back to front.....

I have a feeling that all this talk of serving order is going to upset geo1004 http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/wink.gif

I'm a corny FC flyer. I'll be smiling from ear to ear sitting up front. Goofy smile...full of myself for flying FC for free (cheap fares)
Unless they are serving fried broccoli & pasta in soy sauce I wont really mind what I eat. I'm picky but I'm not a FC regular, so everything and anything is good to me. Dang..I'm too easy to please. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/wink.gif
I wont be flying to Europe this year, so I figured a good Transcon flight would be the next best thing to use my systemwides for. We'll probably head overseas in 2002. Who knows why lies that far ahead..scary..huh?!?

To echo what terenz said, I've only once seen service back to front on transcons and I've flown many of them... I do think it's to annoy geo1004!

USAIR changed the fc meal distribution from alternating depending on east / west direction to the new policy front to back on all flights. I have sat in row 6 on three transcons and in the last two months and missed out on the red meat offering every time. I miss the days of asking the CP first, the CP's seat companion next http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/frown.gif

Row 6 on the 757s hurts. The seats don't recline that far, you're right in front of the toilet, and you're last to be served a meal. Personally, 2C is my favorite. On night flights, I prefer 1A as it is a window seat and I am as far away as possible from the ****ed movie that they show on transcon flights....

Didn't realize the serving system had changed. I'm 160,000 miles this year, with two thirds of that on long haul. Must have been recent. All I know is that at breakfast time, sit in the wrong row, and kiss your hot meal goodbye. On smaller planes, I refer to row 3 as the "cereal row". My vague recollection is plenty of early morning grousing from the occupants of those chairs.

Hell, I'll be certain to sit in row three. I have grown to detest the omelets that they often serve. The cereal with fruit and yogurt is very safe...On long flights, the hot roll or muffin helps.

ITRADE....if you ever get a chance to see a 757 seat map in the USAirways Sabre res computer, you will see the 4 seats in row 6 have a big letter "U" over each. A search of the symbol key indicates U stands for less desirable seat.

Yeah, I know. I was looking at my Xmas SAN trip and was checking through US Airways web site to see how full the flight is already. Coach is JAMMED going out and is 70% full on the return. Thank god for DMUPSYS.

I must be lucky. I seem to always get the full range of meal choices regardless of my seat assignment. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/biggrin.gif
