Looked for a past post about this, no luck. Do you think there is any benefit to cashing in miles to either USAir or UA before the merger? I have ClickMiles available (that could go anywhere). And an AA certificate that I could deposit then transfer to USAir before the merger. The only other AA miles I have would be from a ROC/Las Vegas flight in Feb of 2001. Thanks for your help to this newbie mile collector.

The words "before the merger" presume that US and UA will merge. That has yet to be decided. In a recent chat, Randy said he thought the deal would be pulled off the table and then redone later.

There's probably more urgency to combine your AA and US miles for an AA award. The AA/US relationship ends August 2001.

If you can claim the combined award from either carrier, it's better to claim from AA. I have been told (not confirmed) that miles coming over from US in this way count toward million-mile status on AA.

yes...the miles I've pulled over to AA from
USAir have been added to the lifetime total.
