As we all know, one time when you are allowed to double dip miles is when your itinerary is changed and you fly a different carrier.

I had this happen to me this summer flying ATL-PHL. I got the 600+ miles to both my US (original carrier) and DL accounts. But, in my calculations, I was not credited the US preferred miles for this flight. I understand that pref miles are for miles which are "actually flown" but I was wondering if I had a legitimate gripe in trying to get US to add these pref miles to my account since it was my intention to fly this route.

Write the US DM centre and explain to them. In April, I had an involuntary reroute on HP BOS-SEA (worse bit was that the flight chnanged a/c but had one flight number so only got BOS-SEA instead of BOS-PHX-SEA on my OnePass account). I wrote US DM and they credited me with my original BOS-PHL-SEA with the double Q miles and all.

Yes, it's worth writing--in 1999 I was involuntarily rerouted from US STL-PHL-BWI to a direct flight on TWA. I did receive credit for the two segments which I needed to make Silver! http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif

Yes - call or e-mail the Dividend Miles folks. When you're involuntarily rerouted and are put on another airline - you are supposed to get the credit for your original flight - plus an involuntary reroute "bonus" (at least that was the case last year). I do recall that I had to fill out a short form when US was creating my ticket - from some distant corner of my mind - I seem to recall that you need to fill out that form then and there to get the mileage credit - could have changed. And yes, I did receive both the miles and segment credit for the canceled flight (wasn't thinking well enough to try to double dip by getting UA credit - of course, I didn't then and still don't have a Mileage Plus number (who knows, I may have one sooner than I want).

Point is - get in touch with the Div Miles folks - they'll square it away.

Update the first agent (on the phone) said they don't give preferred miles for status in this occasion. The second asked for a fax of my original US itinerary and my DL boarding pass. The web based response was that they would look into it and get back to me. The saga continues...
