View Full Version : Reduced Mileage Elite levels??????

As you might have noticed our soon to be brothers and sisters at United ( at least thats possible) got a little gift for there five months of hell. Some people might say even more hell than normal United operations.
Meaning flights going out the same week they were planned instead of fixed hours of specific days because of the lack of pilots, mechanics, cooks, basicly anyone needed to get a plane from his fixed position at a gate up to 500 miles actually flying in the air.
To get to the point of interest they were rewarded with lowered elite qualification levels for next year. Meaning that 84.000 instead of 100.000 is enough for there highest level 1 K which trys to be the equivelent of our Chairmann level.
So the big question is will our beloved little airline in appreciation of the soon to be happening family reunion match the lower levels???????????????????
In other words will we get 1K or Chairmann at United or United/USAirways ???????? at 84.000 miles as well. Anyone a guess or even hardcore information. I will be at 55.000 miles in two weeks and it might be a thought for me to go for the big prize if they match the levels. Would be strange if not because if we all melt to one programm the rules of engagement should be equal.

Don't hold your breath. Besides, we already had our little gift with the double miles that counted towards status last Spring, following the abortive F/A strike.

UA's reduced levels won't get you *all* the benefits of the next level, only some of them. For example, your 54th segment on UA will earn you Prem.Ex., but you need 60 segments to be considered a "full" Prem.Ex. eligible for the 100% SFH (Summer From Hell) bonus. Rumor on the UA board is that "real" 1K flyers will get full bennies (systemwide UGs, etc.) that .84K people won't.

To make a long story just a little bit longer: I doubt US will dilute CP because of United's woes - especially considering that .84K is a "lite" version of 1K. Also - at the rate the merger is going, I doubt the frequent flyer programs are merged until long after Feb. 2001.

Just my opinion...and I could be wrong...

Rmccamy, you're partially right...

The end of year bonus for Premier, PremEx, and 1K members is based on your status on 12/31/00 -- doesn't matter how you got there, you get the bonus. There is no difference between "full" and "partly-comped" for this promo.

Now, there IS talk about extra bennies for the people who made it under the regular standards, but people getting it under the reduced standards will receive all of the published benefits of that particular elite level.

There's a five-page thread on the United board on this right now -- and yes, there's a lot of back-and-forth about the rules, but I think we've collectively figured it out now:
