Are e-savers sold through US Airways website able to be upgraded with Gold Preferred certificates?

I've had some great weekends thanks to the E-Savers!

2 years ago, free weekend, no plans.
$79 e-saver DCA-CLT, called and upgraded.
Got to airport, flight oversold! Received free r/t voucher for volunteering, put in FC on the next flight to CLT... 20 minutes later! Agent booked me in F class - 50% mileage bonus. Never collected upgrade certificate.
Next day, return flight to DCA from CLT. Got to airport early and asked to fly standby on an earlier flight. Sure, no problem. Again, agent booked me in F class, never collected the upgrade. 50% FC bonus again.
500 miles each way, 100% PrefPlus bonus, 50% FC bonus = 3,000 miles plus a free r/t for $79 and zero upgrade certificates. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/biggrin.gif
One thing I've noticed is that there hasn't been many international e-savers recently. I understand that at least out of PIT flights are pretty full, so I guess that's good news. I was hoping though for that $279 or so fare roundtrip to Frankfurt, use a couple of systemwides, and be sitting in envoy for 8000 + status miles (and over 17,000 total miles)for under $350 each http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif

I've heard (and seen) that US's international flights are running pretty full. I'll probably wait until the summer euro-travel season is over and hit London, Paris or Frankfurt for about $450... and toss in the systemwides for Envoy. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/biggrin.gif

I'm not sure if we'll see E-Savers to Europe until the end of the summer.
International E-Savers on many airlines have been to Central and South America, nothing to Europe.
