I'm a new user this board and after lurking around for a few days, I finally have a question to ask (and I apologize in advance for being so long-winded - brevity is not my forte).
I bought an SFO-PIT-FRA/MUC-PHL-SFO cheapo student ticket (K-class) on USAir. It seems these student-fare tickets are elegible to earn miles on most airlines, so I created a divident miles account to which to post the miles. I then got lucky with the double-miles promotion and got 12,000-odd miles for the SFO-PIT-FRA portion. I'll be flying the MUC-PHL segment early in the summer, and PHL-SFO near the end of the year - the long and the short of it is that I've transferred to a school in D.C., hence the long stopover in Philadelphia (fall semester). It seems that because of the double miles promotion, I am actually within reach of achieving silver status (I normally fly a few short domestic trips each year and transatlantic every other year, but normally not with sufficient frequency to achieve elite status on any airline). I think this extended trip to DE and the East Coast will net me about 19,000 miles, and the other 6000 miles I can probably get through a BWI-PHL-SFO connecting roundtrip the next time WN launches a $200 fare war. My question - am I allowed to book BWI-PHL-SFO-PHL-BWI in the fall before I do the PHL-SFO leg at the end of the year? I do have the option of changing the date on the PHL-SFO leg of my transatlantic return trip for $25 (nice feature of the student ticket), but for reasons of convenience would prefer to do the lone PHL-SFO segment at the end of the year. I'd appreciate any advice on this issue (or anything else I've failed to consider). Also, what would be the benefits of having silver status for a year (I don't expect to keep it up unless some other offer like the double miles one falls out of the sky)? Since I am relocating to Washington, flying USAir will definitely be an option more often.
Thanks,
