"US Airways is apparently going to cancel its Philadelphia-Amsterdam flight because the airline literally does not have a plane to fly it.

If you recall, the airline just received the slots it had been waiting for in regard to its new Charlotte-Gatwick route last month. And well, as we all know, either they fly the route within 90 days or they lose it.

So, US Airways has elected to drop the Amsterdam route.

You'd think there was a 767 ETOPS out there somewhere."

I'd be suprised if Stephen Wolf does not find aplane to continue these routes. Given the Asian slowdown there HAVE to be some planes out there...even a short term lease until the A-330's come in next year.

geo-- i agree, getting an aircraft shouldn't be too big of a problem. (previous post was just what the newsies reported.) it'd be ashame if they didn't get one though, since the AMS service is only a few months old...

US had a chance to pick up 3 767's a few months ago(from Asiana I believe), and passed. AMS is primarliy organized as a hub airport. KL/NW have a huge collection of onward points that can be connected to. KL put on an AMS nonstop from Philly around the same time US started service. while US has superior feed into PHL, the game at AMS is connections. on that score, US isn't even in it. the plane is better used on CLT-LGW. besides, A-330's are coming at year end.
