SAV Amtrak station and renting a car
I posted this question in the South forum and have no responses so I'm trying here (mods, if you need to close one of the threads, could you close that one...not this one? thanks.)
I'm doing the train into the Savannah train station this summer and will need to rent a car. As far as I can tell, I need to pick up the car from the airport. Is that right? Are cabs usually hanging out by the train station? How much should it cost? (My train arrives around 7:00 am on a Sunday...there will be 4 of us including luggage.)
Have you thought about Enterprise Rent-a-Car? Their commercials say they "will pick you up." There is one about 5 miles from the station which will be cheaper to rent from than an airport location.
hertz will reimburse you for the cab fare to the airport
Yeah, but their price still hurts.

Double check with that Enterprise location directly to verify, but they should have no problem doing this (assuming there isn't a closer Enterprise--each branch is responsible for a certain area of the city). Note that in-town (non-Airport) Enterprise branches usually open at 7am, so if your train arrives a little early, you might have to wait a bit for them to open so you can call them and then have them send a driver.
Most of the time, in-town rental agencies are cheaper, but ALWAYS check all of your options--because of competition, sometimes rates are low enough at the airport to make them cheaper even after the airport fees are added in!

Ultimately I chose to go with Hertz (as I was using AMEX membership rewards points and didn't see an option to redeem with Enterprise).
The $20 cab reimbursement was applied to the overall bill and not as cash back so I just ended up taking the prepaid gas option. The actual cab fare, though, was a little under $40 including tip.
Even cooler was that I could drop my car off at the SAV train station and turn in my contract and keys to the Amtrak agent.
