Award redemptions can now be changed online?

Award redemptions can now be changed online?
Looks like the option is there now - not sure if it is for all types of awards. My NER awards have a Modify Trip button. I haven't gone through with the entire process, because I don't have any I actually need to change.

Regular, i.e., non-NER, awards also have the Modify Trip button. But only as long as the trip actually appears in your account; rewards booked by phone don't.

Next obvious question: does this new feature treat changes requiring fewer points as full redeposit/rebook (w/corresponding penalty) or, per program rules, as partial refund w/smaller penalty?

My gut feeling is that it will work correctly. I've only done an even exchange, and there were line items for points difference and associated penalty.
