Just booked my CNO roomette!
Had the City of New Orleans on my bucket list for a while and was planning to use my points for accommodation. With pending devaluation, decided it was time to start looking and booking.
And when I did I found a good date for just $126, so just bought for cash. Figured points still worth more than that.
So excited, wanted to do this for ages. So I'm just sharing excitement. But now how do I use my points...

Sounds like a good price. I hope you're not too disappointed with the food. Since July 1, the CONO is operating without a chef, which means all meals are "heat-and-eat". No more steak for dinner or hot breakfast (northbound). Be sure to call Amtrak customer relations to tell them what you think!
The staff was very apologetic for the dining car situation though.
The menu shown for the CONO on Amtrak's dining car menu page is not correct. Your actual choices can be found by selecting the CONO from amtrakfoodfacts.com. If you are going northbound you will likely only be able to get continental breakfast. Note that all of the dinner entrees (except for the fish) look almost identical in the photos--like a can of chunky vegetable beef soup dumped in a bowl!

Similar to how its done in the Cardinal in the Diner Lite!
Most reports I've read the posters are very dissatisfied with this and the poor quality of the food!

I did the CONO a couple of years ago, my favorite parts were seeing Jackson, MS and the approach into New Orleans over Lake Pontchartrain. Hope you have a great trip despite the diner situation.
