Is 67 Northeast Regional always on time?

Try to catch 3AM train from NYP to WAS.

How is the on-time performance?

See, mid-page, On Time Performance by Train, and select the train number in the drop-down box.

That link is of limited use in this situation, however. For instance, that shows that train 67 has an on-time performance of 69.8% over the past 12 months. That would lead the OP to believe that the train will be late into WAS an average of 3 out of 10 days.

However, that stat is calculated at the end of the route, which in this case would be Newport News. There's a lot of track, and a lot of potential for delays, south of WAS. There's no way to tell from that stat how often the train is on time into WAS.

There is a non-Amtrak operated website that allows you to find stats for specific stations along the route of any train. In this case, it shows that 67 has averaged just 8 minutes late in WAS over the past month. However, the data is limited.

The bottom line is that no one can guarantee that any given train will be on time on any given day. It could operate on time for 364 days in a row, then on the 365th day the engine will conk out, it hits a trespasser, or a blizzard strikes. So ultimately you pays your money, you takes your chances.

It's pretty good! I take 68/67 all the time. FYI It might be slow because they often use a P42DC!

I took the train frequently NYP-WAS from about 2008 to 2011 and was never late into WAS. It's scheduled at 4:00, which is at least 0:30 slower than other NE Regional trains (possibly because it carries a baggage car).

It is usually on time due to all the padding they have on that train I take it a lot from Stamford to Newport News (VA Beach) to see my brother. It gets into NYC from Stamford early and sits there for almost an hour. It has the same issue in washington dc.
