You can take a CDTA bus, but from what I can see on hopstop, it involves 2 transfers and almost 2 hours.

If you're willing to dine at the Hilton downtown, you might call them and ask if they would pick you up from the airport in their shuttle van. From the Hilton, it's about a ten-minute CDTA bus ride to the Amtrak station in Rensselaer.

As nerd said, CDTA transit buses serve both Amtrak and the airport. It does appear to require two connections, but it took me 30 seconds with Google Maps in Transit mode to find a viable routing. Expect to spend about an hour and a half making the trek. Best of luck.

JT,

It is technically possible to do it by bus, but it involves multiple buses and takes close to an hour & a half. Not sure just what times you're talking about either, so your best bet is to use their trip planner located here.

For your origin, choose the landmark tab and then on the drop down select Colonie for the city. Then choose Travel on the next drop down, followed by Albany airport. For Destination, choose landmark; Rensselear; travel; Amtrak. Then pick you desired travel time for which buses to take.

Another way to do it with two connections: One-way flight to EWR, then NJT train to NYP, then Amtrak train to Albany.
