2010 Year End AGR Points Totals

Congrats on 21 nights in sleepers! I had just 3 and would sacrifice a lot for that much vacation time.

Wow 21 Nights in Sleepers is indeed impressive! I did alright this year myself with...3 (2 on the California Zephyr, 1 on the City of New Orleans).

Well, to be honest, two of the nights were bonuses on epically late trains, and at least half a dozen others were earned traveling St. Paul-Minot, a route that probably wouldn't be on most travelers' top ten lists.

Barely made S+ due to some travel shifts around the middle of the year.

2015 Status: Select Plus
TQP: 10,000
Points redeemed in 2013: 14,500

I had a grand total of one night in a sleeper, with no long-distance redemptions this year (most of the redeemed points were Choice transfers). This is also the closest I've ever cut it for S+ renewal. Not sure I'll push for it again next year unless AGR introduces and defines thresholds for lifetime status.

Ok, I've got the following:
19,858 TQPs posted so far with a number of legs outstanding (500 from an Acela run, about a thousand for an SB Starlight I'm on now, 250 for an open ticket on a NB Starlight with a friend, and around 250 for a round-trip on the Surfliner LAX-SAN). I should wind up somewhere around 22,000. This was with me axing RVR-WAS-CHI-SLC for the NARP conference due to OTP reliability.

With that said, I'm tallying nights...I think I'm going to end up with 20 nights, the majority of which are Richmond-Central Florida (the scattered remainder being three legs on the Starlight, one EMY-SLC, and an amusing, rollicking adventure that involved the Southwest Chief, a Superliner-equipped Cardinal, and a rental car slip-and-slide between St. Louis and Indianapolis). I'd have ended up with somewhere closer to 25 if the east-west OTP hadn't collapsed, forcing me over to Virgin to do that f-word.

Points redeemed in 2013: 8,339 I'M PLEASED...I wish to make some noise to get to Select Plus in 2015. I am traveling more on the Surfliner from LA Union Station to San Diego and San Joaquin from Bakersfield to Lodi/Sac-town - I expect to do more segments @ 100 points a pop to make it. Only Time will tell. C-YA!!! Joe G near LAX

Just wondering, but how did you manage such a...specific redemption amount? And was that 2013 or 2014?

Sadly, only 100 points to my name this year, despite living right along the Keystone line and making regular trips to New York. I no longer take Amtrak due to the lack of a sensible same-day change option: I now drive two hours from home to a NJ Transit station and park there, giving me the ability to leave NYC whenever I want and not have to pay a penalty to change.

6,944 TQPs, so I will drop from S+ to S in March. And I'm okay with that:

  • I'll retain ClubAcela and United Club access via the Chase United Club credit card I got (with a first-year-fee waiver).
  • Getting fewer points won't mean as much if there as many Double Days specials in 2015 as in 2014.
  • The 48-hour window to book an upgrade seems meaningless, since I never had an issue claiming one at the 12-hour window.
  • I'll have two fewer upgrade certs, but trading 10,000 points for another five isn't too bad.

As jackal has outlined before here, Amtrak is overlooking a lot of ways it could recognize and reward its frequent travelers--in particular a free-SDC option that today is unavailable with either points or money.
