And again, ByeByeDelta, a huge, hearty THANK YOU for putting forth the effort to maintain these threads! I now know personally how much time and energy it takes.
Here's to another year of Amtraking--may funding come, may routes not be cut, and may we all live to see multiple trains daily on each route!
H805: 50% off a companion fare if purchased by December 4, for travel through March 10, 2010. Not good on Acela (or, from what I saw, business class fares).
H805 did not work for me for the Downeaster, "The Promotion Code you provided is not available for the train, date or accommodation you selected".
Any further details on what it is, or isn't, good for?
Sorry, no idea why it doesn't work on the Downeaster. It works on the Regional, the Crescent, the Carolinian, and the Silver Star, which is about all I ride and therefore all I tested.

Any more information on the origin of this discount as well as the applicable trains and restrictions? I don't like to sticky codes with very little information about them.

I am looking for any discounts for the coast starlight from Portland, OR to Klamath Falls, OR, departing on Friday, Jan 15 and returning on Monday, Jan 18.
I am looking to take the Palmetto from NYC to Savannah, round trip, 2 adults, 1 child.
I know about the AAA discount. However, are there ever ANY discounts off of business class or roomettes? Or are we stuck with the much higher full price (losing even the child's discount) unless we spend 16 hours in Coach?
I wouldn't mind paying the upgrade fee if it were on top of the discounted child/AAA fair, but it nearly triples this way.

Welcome to FlyerTalk, jennem!
When you upgrade to business class or a sleeper, you pay an accommodations charge in addition to the base railfare paid for coach travel. Discounts on accommodations are very, very rare. However, you still receive any applicable discounts on the railfare portion. You didn't mention your travel dates. Most discounts, including AAA, must be booked at least three days before travel.
The upgrade fee for business class is $55 for a ride from NY to Savanah, without regard to what the base price is or if the traveler is a child or not. And as noted by Delta, the AAA discount doesn't apply to the upgrade fee.
However, you can still get both the child's fare as well as the AAA discount for what is called the rail fare. The rail fare is what you pay whether you travel in coach, business, or if you were to go in a sleeper on one of the other trains that serves Savanah.
As an example, I did a test booking for Tuesday March 9th. If I apply the AAA discount, I get two adults and one child with a rail fare of $245.25. If I add business class to the equation, the rail fare remains the same and the upcharge is $165 ($55 each), bringing the total to $410.25.
