Centurion Card questions
Hi guys. I've got a couple questions on the Centurion Card.
Has anyone tried to get AMEX to let them have the card at the old annual fee of $1,000(not for a grand fathered card, but for a new card)? I charge large amounts on my Gold Card, but I've never seen the need to upgrade until I started reading the threads posted here. I don't travel that much, but I'm trying to "stop and smell the roses", so I anticipate more travel in the near future. I've wondered why I haven't been offered the Centurion Card, even though I put 250k-500k per month on the Gold Card(these are business expenses and I would think AMEX loves the fees they collect off my charges). I was thinking that I have some leverage to get a free or reduced fee Centurion Card if I claimed I was taking my "business" to Visa. Does anyone have any advice for the Centurion Card? Thanks, Jim |
No luck.
I was putting over $500,000 a month on my plat card (my small biz expeditures and personal)and accepted Amex's invite in 2002( Got invited in '99 but didn't feel the benefits, well, benefited me). They told me to call the executive office to see if my spending averages could help in lowing fees and was told by the some manager there that it was not possible with the CeNturion Card.

250k-500k per mo on the amex card? i kind of posed this question earlier to figure what exactly gets charged at this type of dollar amount per month, but with comical responses, i'll refrain here...
would love to see the membership rewards points though... |
Thanks for the info Dr. Benz. I'll give it a go and post up my results.

NPG, I develop real estate and have a home building company. Over the last year we have started "strong arming" suppliers into taking the AMEX card as payment. Within the next couple of months we should have enough suppliers on board to score over 1 million points a month. That's a lot of points to be sure, but I do have 2 business partners, so I only get 1/3 of the points. The extra 3 weeks of "float" we get on our money is also very nice for the cash flow. We have been ratcheting up our card limits monthly. We haven't hit a ceiling yet, but when we do we will spread more debt out over our personal cards. I'm surprised that I haven't been offered a Centurion Card. Jim |

I am amazed that AMEX have not offered you the Centurion card !
With spending of several million USD per year this should immediately qualify. Perhaps they treat your expenditure as "business" instead of "personal" ? In Europe (some countries) you can get a Centurion card with only ca. USD 75k expenditure per YEAR !! (although it is harder to use the card than in the US) |
