CAUTION: In February 2019, American Airlines changed the coding of gift card transactions. Although there are a few successful data points since, in general, Gift Card purchases are now explicitly identified, and no longer reimbursed by American Express.

Reminder: you must enroll and select your airline BEFORE making a reimbursable purchase. http://www.americanexpress.com/airlinechoice -or- "Call the number on the back of your Card to select a qualifying airline."

Data Points on automatically reimbursed incidentals since 2017:

Admirals Club Memberships: Admirals Club Passes: Admirals Club Food/Drinks: Award Cancellation Fee*: Award Taxes/Fees: Baggage*: Change Fee*: Close-In Ticket Fee*: Elite 500-mile Stickers: Elite Challenges: External Reservation Fee: Five Star Service: Infant Fees: MCE/Seat Selection: Mileage Multipler: Pet Fee*: Same Day Flight Change: Upfares: Upgrades:
Wifi is provided by one of three third-party providers and is thus not eligible for the incidental credit.

* For items not automatically reimbursed but which are not excluded by Amex, you can try and request manual reimbursement from American Express; however, you may need to wait 14-28 days first.

8/31 -- bought two $50 and one $100 gift cards
9/1 -- charges posted to statement
9/2 -- amex fee reimbursement posted to statement
9/3 -- cards became usable on AA

Kind of ridiculous it takes 72 hours for the gift cards to process on the AA side...

Sept 16: Purchased $70 AA gift card
Sept 18: Transaction posted to card
Sept 19: Got reimbursed

Just wanted to note a counterpoint DP from past experience. Two months ago, I selected AA as my airline, and then immediately purchased two $100 AA gift cards. Neither was reimbursed. Moral of the story is to wait a little while after selecting your airline so that the system can process it. If you purchase immediately after, you may not get the reimbursement.

If my Plat AF hits in March '18, is that when my new $200 travel credit will reset or will it be January 1st?

Charge title

Bought a $100 eGC yesterday (9/22), charge pending on my account says “AMERICAN AIRLINES-CCS” and is located in Tulsa, OK. Category: Travel-Arline. Any word on if this has been reimbursed for anyone? Usually seeing American Airlines Misc charges coming out of Dallas.

edit: PRG, Selected AA 2 months ago

Hilton-gold, when you were reimbursed for MCE seats, did you select them when purchasing the ticket? Or did you go back into your reservation after ticketing to add them?

After ticketing - like weeks later. It was a separate charge and email receipt, but refunded just the same and on time.
