Amex USA vs Canada MR to SPG conversion rate

Amex USA vs Canada MR to SPG conversion rate
From what I read, the exchange rate for Membership Reward points to SPG starpoints is:

1000:333 for Amex USA
1000:500 for Amex Canada

Any reason why the exchange rate is more favourable for Canadian MR ? Is there a risk of devaluation with no or little notice ?

Probably SPG negotiated lower conversion in US to encourage better takeup of their co-branded card.

This is one of the only ways that Canadian Amex holders have it better than folks in the US
