Certs of Insurance (Travel/Trip) : Airline Strike Coverage - CDN Plat

Just wasted 30 mins of my life I'll never get back trying to get the certificates of insurance for my Platinum Amex. Passing me back and forth between card services and Ins. Amex really seems to have fallen down a little bit.

I'm sure someone here has/knows more than the reps. I should have come here first :

Is airline strike an exclusion to trip delay/interruption coverage for flights purchased w/ Plat AX? i.e., If stuck, Can I buy a flight on another carrier to get home and be covered up to $1,000 per family member (max of $3,000)

Thanks

For reference, you can quite easily find the certificates of insurance if you log in to the Amex Plat site and go to the insurance tab. There should be a number of links that say something to the effect of "What happens if ..." Choose a travel related question and there will be a link to the certificates.

From what I see, strike action is NOT an exclusion to flight delay coverage. It does not seem to be covered under trip cancellation/interruption. In your case, I would suspect it qualifies under flight delay, but would advise calling in to the Platinum Travel Service and asking them for assistance. They may be able to help you rebook and they can definitely either provide an answer to your coverage question or patch you through to a rep at the insurer.

Thanks.
I've tried that. Passed around all over Amex.
Finally found the certificates > Logged in > Service > Insurance .......... BUT it's a dead link in both Chrome and IE.

So, they're actually going to mail them out to me. In 2 0 1 6 !?!? ....... They mentioned they'll include a short video explaining all the benefits of the card - on VHS tape, of course.

I happen to have the PDF on my iPhone. PM me your email and I'll send it over.

Go to americanexpress.com/platinum , log in

(Alternatively from your normal AMEX log-in, click card benefits, click on one of the benefits and find the same link)

Once inside, click Service -> Insurance and you get the link to the actual document. A fully working link.

Probably a legal requirement, upon card approval.

I have consulted those certificates many times...but IIRC for Canada, Amex Plat insurance does not cover strike action... (considering I fly LH enough, I always am concerned). It's a real deficiency IMO...

If you find out otherwise, let me know.

Odd.
I tried the process yesterday. Dead link.
But I'm able to open your link no problem.
Kendryk was kind enough to e-mail me the doc direct upthread.

The Insurance "specialists" initially told me "No coverage at all for strike". After reading the certificate, I called back and, again, was told "No coverage at all". I told them to actually read what is covered.
After actually reading the document, they confirmed they will cover for accommodations + meals up to $1,000 for the first 48 hours.
There is NO coverage for a ticket on a non-striking airline to get home.

Glad I could help and thanks for reporting back!

PTS has helped me rebook through the airline to get me on a flight back home within 48 hours. Total speculation: they might be able to help you negotiate a rebook on a codeshare flight? Probably worth a shot to ask. Hope it works out for you.

For reference, Global Excel has processed claims and sent out the cheque within 2-3 weeks in my experience.

Make sure you have the latest certificate as of July 2015.

Thanks for feedback ! That's what I figured...I'm more concerned with getting to destination/home. Knock on wood, when I encountered strike action on LH this year, rebooked myself on LAN FRA-MAD and saved $$$ by cancelling LH J booking. Luckily, LH YYZ-FRA managed to take off just in time to avoid strike action... (that was in O/F so dodged a bullet there)...

So flight delay coverage but no trip interruption/trip delay coverage... other CCs do actually include strike in their trip interruption coverage..
