Policy Changes effective March 22, 2019

NOTE: FOR PLATINUM CARD MEMBERS ONLY

The Centurion Lounge is a day of departure lounge. We will not admit arriving Platinum Card Members with boarding passes for flights that have just landed. We will admit Platinum Card Members with layovers or connecting flights who produce proof of connecting flight.

We will not admit Platinum Card Members more than 3 hours before the departure time on the Platinum Card Member’s same-day, confirmed boarding pass. This does not apply to Platinum Card Members with a connecting flight.

We will admit children under 2 years of age free of charge, provided an accompanying parent or guardian is able to produce a “lap infant” boarding pass or proof of age

I am a trio. My daughter often travels with my wife and I, but we are both cardholders so a trio or not?

FYI, before you go through security, you can call and see if they have space.

I did this once. Just called the number on the back of my card, and the CSR put me on hold for a minute, called the SFO lounge directly, and came back and told me that they had plenty of space. I ended up not going (went to the VS lounge instead) but I would definitely recommend doing this before making an extra trip through security.

I can certainly understand why a Centurion cardholder might expect to never be turned away, but if I (Platinum card holder) was ever told the club was full, and then saw a Centurion cardholder admitted, especially with guests in tow, I would complain and likely cancel my card.

It's a business decision that AMEX needs to make, and I'd hope they would expand, buy more chairs, and start limiting day passes and guests before turning away primary Centurion and Platinum card holders.

The Centurion Lounge located in EZE (ARG) got very crowded last year. So crowded that there were waiting lines (for some reason I can't understand, argentine people love making likes ). They ended up restricting a lot the entry to the Lounge as of Jan 1st 2015. But this Centurion Lounge was far more relaxed in terms of entry rules. Platinum credit cards (even those issued by banks) could enter before Jan 1st. Now its Gold charge and above for residents of that country and Plat+ for international cardholders.

In fairness, it is called "The Centurion" lounge.

To be fair, Centurion likely refers to American Express' mascot (the guy).

...And they don't call it the Centurion Card Lounge, nor the Centurion Cardholders' Lounge.

Besides, one need not be an Admiral to enter the AA lounge. And pretty sure you didn't have to be a President to get into the former CO lounges. Just sayin'.

That said, can I get in without an Amex card at all if I walk up in full Centurion dress?

They'll probably hire you to stand outside the lounge and direct people inside

Only if you're naked from the waist down.

Getting the sword through TSA may be a bit tricky - so give it a go at LGA first.

Post pictures!

At Caesars Palace in Las Vegas (at various times during the day), they have a "crew" of gladiators and Cleopatra's appearing in the casino--their Caesar is dressed (and looks like) the Centurion--he'd be right in place (if he got through TSA), at Amex's Centurion Lounge (in LAS).

Good tip.

I tried calling AMEX CS when the SFO lounge first opened to ask a question and the rep and his supervisor had no clue how to reach them. Happy to hear that has been resolved.
