MR [Canada] --> Starwood --> Nights + Flights

http://www.starwoodhotels.com/prefer...s_flights.html

"With Nights & Flights, you can redeem 60,000 Starpoints for 50,000 airline miles and five free nights at a Category 3 hotel or resort."

So, if I transfer 50,000 MR to my airline, I get 50,000 miles.

If I transfer 60,000 MR to Starwood, I get 50,000 miles and five free hotel nights?

You'll need 120k MR for 60k Starpoints. So, not a good deal.

No, you got multiple things wrong.

As stated above, MR:SPG is not 1:1. (The exact ratio depends on what country your Amex MR card was issued in.) If you want to earn SPG points with a credit card, you should be using the Amex SPG card, not an Amex MR card.

http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/ameri...1-1-ratio.html

Meanwhile SPG to most airlines is 1:1.25 if you transfer 20k+ miles at a time. So if you transfer 20k SPG, you wind up with 25k miles.

Lastly, you didn't specify what you mean by "your airline". SPG doesn't transfer to Cathay (the only airline you have listed your profile), and to some airlines it's a bad ratio (2:1 in UA's case).

Assumptions: Canadian AMEX MR and Air Canada Aeroplan (given you're in Vancouver)

MR to Aeroplan: 50,000 MR gets you 50,000 Aeroplan

MR to SPG Nights and Flights: 120,000 MR gets you 60,000 SPG, of which 40,000 SPG goes to get you 50,000 Aeroplan (every 20,000 SPG turns in to 25,000 Aeroplan) and the remaining 20,000 SPG gets you the 5 nights Category 3 (instead of the normal 28,000 SPG needed)

Obviously, the two redemption scenarios are nowhere near the same... in the Nights and Flights, you effectively used an extra 70,000 MR to get the equivalent of 28,000 SPG of value, which you could have gotten for less by transferring 56,000 MR to SPG directly and saving 14,000 MR in the process...

Obviously I missed the 2:1 MR-->SPG ratio. Thanks!

2:1 MR to SPG ratio is not bad.
3:1 in the US.
