BLUE from AMEX..anyone have this card?

Hello,

So I saw that AMEX has a BLUE card...NOT the cash back or the blue sky.

This card:
http://www304.americanexpress.com/ge...arn-about/Blue

0% APR first yr..no annual fee...10k MR pts after $1k spend in 3 months...seems easy.

I have a PRG as well...I was thinking about getting this card for the 10k pts, linking this card and my PRG to the same MR account and then letting it sit around due to the no annual fee..lol.

Anyone have this card? Thughts?

Amex BLUE Cards are fully functionable

Thank you for the post and hint to the BLUE card.

The BLUE card was/is also offered in Germany. Many moons ago it´s fresh design in comparison to the classic design of the green card was used as a unique selling argument to younger people. @:-)

It attracted many new customers and also entrepreneurial people which thought that the classic design of the Green card was not stylish enough.

When introduced to the market some (nice female) colleagues of me wondered about how they have put the blue hologram into that card. They haven´t seen a credit card like that in the German market.

You may have a look here:
https://www.americanexpress.com/de/content/blue-card/

This card is fully functionable and has no downsides. In my experience the spending limit is calculated like for the other cards also. The only disadvantage of the German version is that they charge an amount for the participation in Membership rewards. So double check if it´s really free also in the second year.

Therefore there is no reason for not grabbing the spending bonus and open this card as a second Amex card.

The reason why you may not see this card too often is that they start sending the cardholder upselling letters to the next higher colours. They are not aggressive or annoying in doing so, just send the invitations by mail "Danke für Ihr Vertrauen...... " and offer the higher colours.

And then many cardholders start moving up to green, gold or even Platinum.

So I am not able to find any argument against the Amex BLUE card.

I've had a Blue card for many years. Since there's no annual fee, it serves as a convenient place holder for MR points when I don't want to keep a Gold or Plat card.

If you keep your PRG card then all points earned by using either card will be considered to be regular Memebership Rewards points. If you cancel your PRG card and keep just the Blue card, then all your points will convert to Membership Rewards Express points, which are not as useful (they cannot, for example, be transferred to airline FFPs or hotel guest programs). If you subsequently get a new Gold/Plat card, then all you points will magically convert back to MR/MR First points again.

Makes for a great card to have if you plan to churn.

Also, I've noticed that on the AMEX website there are more "Special Offers" that show up for my Blue card than either my Gold or Plat. Small ones to be sure, but a painless way to save a couple bucks here and there.

I've had a Blue card since 2001. It's a credit card (vs Charge Card) and until the Dodd-Frank reform, had a steady 8.99% fixed interest rate. Since Dodd-Frank limited the ability of card issues to raise rates, Amex jumped the rate up to 12.99% variable before the law took effect.

Anyhoo, it's a decent card to earn rewards and accumulate/store points. I've also noticed that it seems to get more offers than the Platinum. My wife and I use it as our everyday card.

Ok great...thanks for the feedback everyone!

To get an easy 10k MR pts doesnt sound like a bad idea...spend $1000 in 3 months. no fee so i can keep it open.

I recently got the PRG and plan to hold onto that until the annual fee is due and then I plan to upgrade to the Platinum. So by having the blue and the Plat, all my pts will upgrade to MR first. sounds like a plan!

One I meet my spend for my SPG Amex, then ill apply for this card

Last question...is there a link comparing MR express > MR > first.

It sucks that they got rid of the 20% pay with points rebate for the Plat card...

I just got the Blue card for exactly the same reason - a place to park MR points if I'm in between other cards. The 10K signup bonus is a nice plus.

I've had this card for a long time now, its a place to park my MR points when I dont have any Gold or Platinum cards (such as right now). I dont actually use it for much other than 3-4 purchases a year just to show some minor activity.
