AMEX Plat to Mercedes Plat
Stupid question, but if I have the platinum, can I request an upgrade to Mercedes platinum without a hard pull? Also, if I had opened a new AMEX card, does that affect the upgrade chance?

This would not be an "upgrade" it would be a "product change". If you apply for a Mercedes Platinum card you could earn a 50,000 point new account bonus. You would not receive this bonus if you change.

I have upgraded from a Green card to a Platinum card with a targeted offer, and they gave me a 50k bonus.

Yes, but if they agree to let you change from standard to the Mercedes version you will probably not be eligible for a future bonus for the Mercedes card if the system shows that you have "had" the card - it doesn't look at whether you received a bonus.

While it is possible that American Express will enforce those terms they have not been enforced to now. Scroll back to read other experiences.

I had a Platinum Business Amex card already and applied for the MB plat card and got the 75K bonus. This was in August. It's possible either they hadn't changed things at that time, or it was because One was a business card, and the other a personal card. Not sure. But from what I hear Amex considers a personal Plat and a personal MB card the same product now. Probably best to call them.
I'm probably going to cancel the Mercedes card when it comes up for renewal because I was under the misunderstanding that you would get the $1K bonus for leasing a Mercedes every year (if you met the spend), but apparently it's only 1 bonus per different car per year (and a lease is for 3 years). Also you can't apply it to a certified Mercedes car purchase. We always have bought Acuras but with all those Takata airbag problems, I'm thinking maybe a Mercedes might be a better choice. So too bad. The other benefits of the card are pretty much the same as the the regular plat card, so not a big loss, really. However, I still will go to the Mercedes dealer and get my $100 MB chachkas.

The new annual fee is $550, same as other personal Platinum Card variants.

Correct. Next year I will close my regular platinum and open a MB platinum. For the same AF I will get $100 to use in MB accesories and $1000 to use for my lease.

I got this last year, and thought it was annual, but apparently you can only use it once per car.
With the new increase in the annual fee, I'll be cancelling it in August when it comes up for renewal.
You might be better off looking into an Amex Plat Business card; the fee still $450 (though no Uber credits). Also, the Business card gives you 50% back when you use your airline of choice's Membership Rewards...

Are there any new data points on if persons are getting the points even if they have another non-MB platinum card?
My wife has the personal plat card and the annual fee just hit and i would like to get this bonus and then cancel the personal platinum. Will that work? I have the business plat and would like to do the same thing, will it work as well?
Also, the regular MB card interests me just to have the low annual fee, get 10k bonus points and move my 300k point stash to in order to avoid the $550 annual fee on the personal or business platinum. Does the regular MB card allow the movement or points to all the normal MR partners?
Thanks!
