USA Platinum cardholders reported $100, $200 and $500 versions of a peremptory retention offer:
You will receive up to $X00 in statement credits toward American Airlines and US Airways incidental fees charged to your Card from March 22, 2014 to December 31, 2014....These statement credits are in addition to the $200 Airline Fee Credit2 benefit already included in your Membership
Most US lounges, and some AA lounges, had also accepted Priority Pass. Priority Pass access ended on 3.22.2014. See post 649.

As a result of the recently announced merger between American Airlines and US Airways, we have been informed by both lounge partners that they’ve unfortunately chosen to no longer participate in the Priority Pass lounge access program effective March 22, 2014.

Not exactly what you are asking, but here's my story:

Was not sent any credit for lost of US and AA clubs.

Called before 22 March and asked, gently, "Hey, what's up with this?" Was told I had the $100 credit.

Called back toward end of March and was assured I had the $100 credit and that I could use it plus my "normal" $200 credit toward a US club renewal. Or an AA (not relevant to me yet.)

Called US and renewed. The $200 credit posted immediately. The additional $100 did not. Called back last week and asked "Hey, what's up with that?" Was assured by pleasant AmEx rep that she was pushing it through, but it might take 4-6 weeks. That sounded bizarre to me. It must have sounded bizarre to her, because after repeating it once, she sort of stammered and said, as we were hanging up, that it should process soon.

In the event, the $100 compensation has not posted yet. But it has only been six days. Not six weeks.

Spent $350 in baggage fees March 24. Called yesterday asking when my credit would post for the annual $200 credit plus my paltry additional $100 credit. They took care of it immediately.

The credits tend to post within days, so it sounds like you may need to call in and have them manually apply it.

The charge was notated as AA MISC SALE/TAX/FDALLAS, had a ticket number indicated as well as Document Type: Club Membership Fee. I called AMEX customer service, who agreed to credit the charge with the caveat it would take about two weeks for the credit to appear. They also read me the complete agreement (shown below) to which I had to agree to the terms and conditions of (the call was recorded). Note the bolded section about which charges are considered eligible!

Dear Danville 1K,

We are writing to confirm your enrollment in the $500 statement credit offer* for American Airlines and US Airways. With this offer, you can receive up to $500 in statement credits after you make eligible purchases for incidental fees at American Airlines and US Airways using your enrolled Card.

Eligible incidental fees include:

Membership Fees in the Admirals Club program and US Airways Club
Admirals Club lounge One-Day passes and US Airways Club day passes
Checked baggage fees (including overweight/oversize)
Itinerary change fees
Phone reservation fees
Pet flight fees
Seat assignment fees
In-flight amenity fees (i.e. beverages, food, pillows, blankets, headphones)
In-flight entertainment fees (excluding wireless internet, which is managed and charged by a separate company)

This offer ends on December 31, 2014. Please allow between two and four weeks after you make an eligible purchase for the statement credits to appear on your account.

This offer is in addition to the $200 Airline Fee Credit* benefit already included with your Card. This benefit provides up to $200 a year in statement credits when eligible incidental fees are charged by a qualifying airline that you select to your eligible Card Account.

We value your CardMembership and hope this exciting new offer will enhance your experience.

Sincerely,

American Express Customer Care

*American Express relies on accurate airline transaction data to identify incidental fee purchases. If you do not see a credit for a qualifying incidental purchase on your enrolled Card after 4 weeks, simply call the number on the back of your Card. See terms & conditions for more details.

Promotional Offer Terms and Conditions

Select Business Platinum Card® and Centurion® Members are eligible for a special promotion to receive up to $500 in statement credits toward incidental air travel fees for American Airlines and US Airways. This promotion is in addition to the $200 Airline Fee Credit benefit already included on your Card. Promotion is valid between 3/22/2014 and 12/31/2014. Promotion is not transferable. American Express in its sole discretion reserves the right to alter and or terminate this promotion at any time. Statement Credits: Incidental air travel fees must be charged on the Platinum Card®, Business Platinum Card®, Centurion® Card or Business Centurion® Card Account that is eligible for the promotion. Purchases made by both the Basic and Additional Card Members on the Card Account that is eligible for the promotion are eligible for statement credits. However, each Card Account that is eligible for this promotion can only receive up to $500 in statement credits across all Cards on the Account. Incidental air travel fees must be separate charges from airline ticket charges. Fees not charged by American Airlines and US Airways (e.g. wireless internet and fees incurred with alliance partners) do not qualify for statement credits. Incidental air travel fees charged prior to the promotion start date or after the promotion end date are not eligible for statement credits. Airline tickets, upgrades, mileage points purchases, mileage points transfer fees, gift cards, duty free purchases, and award tickets are not deemed to be incidental fees. American Airlines and US Airways must submit the incidental air travel fees under the appropriate merchant code, industry code, or required service or product identifier for the charge to be identified. Please allow 2-4 weeks after the qualifying incidental air travel fee is charged to your Card Account for statement credit(s) to be posted to the Account. We rely on American Airlines to submit the correct information on airline transactions, so please call the number on the back of the Card if statement credits have not posted after 4 weeks from the date of purchase. Card Members remain responsible for timely payment of all charges. To be eligible for this promotion, your Card Account must be active and not in default at the time of statement credit fulfillment. If a charge for any incidental air travel fee is included in a Pay Over Time feature balance on your Card Account (for example, Sign & Travel), the statement credit associated with that charge will not be applied to that Pay Over Time feature balance. Instead, the statement credit will be applied to your Pay In Full balance. For additional information about this promotion, please call the number on the back of your Card.

If you purchase an American Airlines® Admirals Club annual membership online, please note that this will be set-up as a recurring charge on your Card by American Airlines.

$200 Airline Fee Credit Terms and Conditions

Benefit is available to Consumer and Business Platinum Card® and Centurion® Members only. To receive statement credits of up to $200 a year toward incidental air travel fees, Card Member must enroll and choose a qualifying airline at americanexpress.com/airlinechoice. Only the Basic Card Member or Authorized Account Manager(s) on the Card Account can enroll and select the qualifying airline. Card Members who have not chosen a qualifying airline will be able to do so at any time. Card Members who have already selected a qualifying airline will be able to change their choice one time each year in January at americanexpress.com/airlinechoice or by calling the number on the back of the Card. Card Members who do not change their airline selection will remain with their current airline. Statement Credits: Incidental air travel fees must be charged on the enrolled Card Account for the benefit to apply. Purchases made by both the Basic and Additional Card Members on the enrolled Card Account are eligible for statement credits. However, each Card Account is eligible for up to a total of $200 a year in statement credits across all Cards on the Account. Airline tickets, upgrades, mileage points purchases, mileage points transfer fees, gift cards, duty free purchases, and award tickets are not deemed to be incidental fees. The airline must submit the incidental air travel fees under the appropriate merchant code, industry code, or required service or product identifier for the charge to be identified. Please allow 2-4 weeks after the qualifying incidental air travel fee is charged to your Card Account for statement credit(s) to be posted to the Account. We rely on airlines to submit the correct information on airline transactions, so please call the number on the back of the Card if statement credits have not posted after 4 weeks from the date of purchase. I asked and they told me to pound sand ... very frustrated. No letter from Amex either to inform about this. Will have to seriously think about taking my business elsewhere.

This is the standard language since August 2012 which is not enforced:

Sure. I renewed and had the credit post in just a few days. Downgraded the card to the green corporate cad a few days later at the end of March.

Purchased mine on March 24th, got credit on March 26th. Alas, I did buy it in an actual club and not online.

What's the value of a Platinum card these days? No more AA and USAir lounge, DL charging for guests. And yet they are not trying very hard to retain customers.

There are others benefits beyond the lounges for the Platinum Card that other holders may still feel they can get the value from it.

I continue to find the same value in the card as there was before AA lounge access became a benefit. Just used FHR to save more than half my annual fee on a one-night stay at a hotel in Hawaii ^

Sorry. Somehow my response didn't take. See below. Can't find a way to delete this post.

I asked this question last November. I'm not going to go back and add up all my savings since the last time I reported a specific number. Let's just say it's so much I'm tired of counting. Maybe if we all kept a spreadsheet on this we would all have figures. But seriously, many of us got a survey asking how to address your very concern as Amex decides how to make up for that loss. In the meantime, many of us received extra savings of $100 to $500. Amex is also adding a Wi-Fi benefit in June. I realize some wish Amex had figured out a benefit replacement to counter the loss of Admirals Club, etc. before the loss was announced last November. But, in this case, patience will see us through the long run. What has happened between Amex and the other companies involved here is simply competition. It is that competition that in the long run benefits we consumers.

Basically, you have to be the kind of person who pays rack rate at hotels and doesn't even try to save money.
