[edit] looking at the devaluation PDF, although it's a bit crappy to lose some properties to higher rates, it looks like a lot of them are in pretty arcane locations, so in fact none of the ones I was actually planing to stay in in the next year or two are changing. Woohoo!

It ain't that bad ...

I actually use the SPG points for airline ticket, so would transfer to say, asiamiles at 1:1 rate, and get 5000 for each 20k transfer. So, the change won't affect that ... ^

This is true, but there's actually potentially a lot of value to be had in some properties - so although I used to rush to convert the points away, I no longer do on the off chance ill be staying at one of the properties. But if it works for you then you're not impacted (but wait for airline transfer promos like the Aeroplan ones, hehe).

Ditto. 20k Starwoods are always worth 25k Avios, so unless I need them they'll sit in my Starwoods account.

Note for anyone considering getting a UK plat card for the sign-up bonus. As of today, the plat card has ZERO sign-up bonus for a direct application and a miserly 2000 if referred (referrer gets 4000).

Gold card is unaffected, still gives 22,000 if referred and is free for first year.

Refferal link available via my blog

Wow haha. Seriously? This can't be permanent. Something must've fallen apart on the AmEx website.

Well they had been clearly flagging that the previous offer would expire on the 3rd. Hopefully its short term, otherwise, along with the increase in annual fee ,it would be further evidence that they are trying to get rid of "soft" card holders.

Is there any way for me in the US to get a different country's cards to refer people for CA or UK cards? I can't believe US AmEx hasn't had referrals for the last 5 months

CANADIAN Platinum REFERRAL offer is 60K MR after spending $3000 in 3 months

Regular PUBLIC offer is 50K MR after spending only $1000 in 3 months
https://www.americanexpress.com/ca/e...platinum-card/

Note the $699/fee is the same regardless
