Gogo In-flight Available through landing

A few flights ago (perhaps in May), Gogo Inflight internet was operable all the way through landing (as opposed to turning off when it normally does).

I had always assumed it automatically turned off or became technologically inoperable below 10k feet. Do the Flight Attendants or pilots need to turn it off and someone forgot?

Just curious.

I noticed this on a flight last week actually, thought maybe it was just a fluke.

No your not losing your mind. This happened to me the past two weeks. Before that it would always be nixed descending through 10,000 feet.

I noticed this happened recently but not sure where I was. It's not a technology problem for GoGo to receive signals below 10,000 feet. GoGo is just using land based cell towers. Wonder if its just on planes that have upgraded the GoGo system?

Was under the impression this was a SW upgrade to the automatic process GoGo does on the ground and through landing. AA isn't investing anything with GoGo at this point for new equipment.

I seem to have the same experience with wifi working "gate to gate" on the A321 but not the 737 or A319

They are still outfitting some aircraft with 2Ku from GoGo beginning this year.

Sadly, the reupholstered A320 I was on today turned off at 10,000 on the dot.

Edit: looks like AA Fleet Site is keeping track of mods: https://sites.google.com/site/newame...ine/airbus-320

Flying into DFW on an old MD-80 and the Wi-Fi was on much lower than 10,000 ft. It didn't shut off until we were pretty much on final approach right over JerryWorld (Cowboys Stadium). Had to be below 10,000 ft.

Flew into JAN Sunday night on ASH5737 and it cut off as we dropped below 10,000 feet.

It depends which GoGo version the plane has installed.

So today I flew flight 622 LGA to CLT. I didn't get the aircraft number, but the inflight gogo internet was not working once we got into the air. The flight attendant apologized. She said that she can not reset the internet in the air. It must be done on the ground. So that was a first for me where the gogo internet wasn't working. I didn't mind because it was a short flight anyway. I just wanted to check if I still had internet from gate to gate if it was working.
