ARCHIVE: Airbus A321 Transcon / A321T / "32B" 3 class (consolidated 2012-2014)

A321 3 class ships are dedicated to JFK-LAX and JFK-SFO service at this time; they have 10F in 1 + 1 layout, 20J in 2 + 2, 72Y in 3 + 3 configuration (MCE rows 11-16); coded "321T" (32B on timetables). (Bulkhead row 11 has most legroom, but no window due to 3L and R doors.) All seats with 110 VAC and 5 VDC USB powered jacks. All Airbus narrow bodies and new delivery 738s (no word on retrofits) to get 15.4" / 39 cm PTVs with up to 200 movies, 180 television programs, 350 audio and 20 games; 8.9 inch PTVs in coach with free and paid content.

N.B. AA seems to be miscoding the two class A321 as "32B" in some timetables and itineraries; see 2-class 321 / A321 (miscoded 32B) added to the schedule (June 2014)

First delivery N101NN, Fleet No. 783, 21 Nov 2013.

AA118 Lv LAX 0700 Ar JFK 1530 Tue 7 Jan 2014 and AA133 Lv JFK 1545 Ar LAX 1925. SFO-LAX begins 6 Mar 2014.

Like the layout in A321, but with F10, J20, Y+36, Y36, thats only 102 seats.

Wonder what the layout will be on the other A/C types...........

Hope they go A321 on FLL-LAX

Good job BRP

Just glanced quickly but my first impressions are:

Wow, some of those new first class seats look extremely narrow.

The econ seats look like they have very little padding.

AA to introduce 3-class A321s; PTVs on domestic planes.

How exactly is AA going to make money on these flights with 72 coach seats? The 10 First class seats will be either filled with Non Revs, Awards or those 1-2 people who purchased the J seat and then got upgraded. The J cabin will be filled with 90% coach travelers who get upgraded to Business. Thus basically you will have about 90 people paying Coach fares and max 5 people paying J fares on the entire flight. Looks like AA will be heading to a second bankruptcy again in 2014/2015

Thats simply inaccurate. These flights will only fly JFK-SFO-LAX where there is SUBSTANTIAL demand for both F and J at very high fares. On peak flights, J sells out routinely.

Harder to upgrade. Less spacious than 762s. There, I said it.

The F and J cabins look very nice, though. And MCE will be a good improvement over the awful Y cabin in the 762s.

agreed. upgrades on transcons will now be almost impossible. going from 30J to 20J just eliminated the excess inventory that elites needed, assuming the frequency of flights stays the same.

A successful AA requires them to cater first to paid-premium fares, not upgraders.

Remember that there are only 72 Y upgrading into 20 J vs. 128 upgrading into 30 J.

No doubt, re: catering to paid fares. Fair enough.

Also, good point on 72Y to 20J.

Fully lie-flat J seat on a transcon? Very nicely done, AA!
