Boeing 787-9 "Best Business Seat" and Service

There are 20 789s at the end of 2018: there will be a total of 47 789s (and 42 788s) in the Dreamliner fleet.

This thread is dedicated to discussion of the Boeing 787-9 stretched Dreamliner Business class seating and service. For the Zodiac Business seats in the 787-8, see here.

NOTE: According to boerne, "seat reset button on 787-9 in J is on the bottom of the H side of the center aisle".

The 787-9 stretched version of the Dreamliner went into service October 6, 2016 DFW-LAX-DFW, after an ETOPS-proving DFW-LHR-DFR AA 50 - 51 immediately prior.

The new aircraft uses 30 B/E Aerospace Super Diamond solo seats in Business class, similar to those used by Air Canada, Virgin Australia, - and Qatar Airways in its newer aircraft (e.g. A350), instead of the Zodiac "Concept D Business Suite" used in the 787-8 / 788.

This seat faces forward (at an angle to the fuselage centerline, reverse herringbone) 100%, is outward oriented seating at windows, inward facing in the center seat pair. The center seat pair is ideal for couples, as they are seated side by side facing inward; it is less than ideal for solo flyers, because AA has chosen to not install movable privacy dividers between middle seats. Row 5 has one window instead of two. (There is no induced motion issue, as there is with the Zodiac seats.)

I'm not 100% certain, but it looks like the walk up bar won't be included on the 789 and potentially future aircraft.

Seats

So, now that 787-900 seats/schedules are loaded in AA, what seats are you picking? Appear to be all forward facing, currently selected 2D & 2H for DFW-MAD in November. Either way will be better than 9H & 9J on the 777.

Haven't even flown the 788 yet so curious what AA 788 FT experts thought about the layout when they saw this seat map.

What makes you think they are all forward facing? Not that I know either way, but I assumed a similar layout as the 788 (alternating forward/aft facing).

The new 789 business seats are all forward-facing.

Triangle

It it me, or do your rear facing seats on other AA planes show a little triangle/arrow for directionality? This one had none of that.

AA 772 example

Since I'm taking a night flight, I'm taking mid cabin - rows 3 or 4. I don't want any light or noise from the front or rear galleys.

I can select seats on my December flights.

You were correct, the seats all face forward-- they're the new seats that AA replaced the concept-D (present 77W and 787) seats with after the relationship with Zodiac fell apart.

789

Thanks for the input guys - moved back one row to 3, thinking should help if light or noise from galley would be an issue. Can't wait to try it out!

Same basic design as the QR seat, though of course different materials and appointments.

+1. The seat looks a little wider than the 77W seat, but definitely an improvement over the Zodiac seat. It's a shame AA didn't select this seat from the beginning. It debuted just before the first 77W was delivered to AA. Still disappointing they eliminated the walk-up bar in order to stuff in some more seats. I wonder how this will be compensated other than a make shift snack set up in the front galley.
