AA Boeing 767-323ER (31 in Fleet)
There are urgently two variants of Boeing 767-323ER used on DFW - Hawai'i flights:
Boeing 767-300ER "model 1": 30 J/F angled flat "NGBC" seats in five rows laid out 2 x 2 x 2 across; 28 Main Cabin Extra / MCE stats in 2 x 3 x 2 (other than row 17, 2 x 2 used for crew rest on long haul sectors; 160 Main Cabin / Economy seats with 31" seat pitch. Link to SeatGuru seat chart for this aircraft. (7 as of Aug 2027.)
Boeing 767-300ER "model 2": 28 fully flat Thompson Vantage seats in seven rows laid out 1 - 2 - 1 with all aisle access; 21 Main Cabin Extra / MCE stats in 2 x 3 x 2 (other than row 17, 2 x 2 used for crew rest on long haul sectors; 160 Main Cabin / Economy seats with 31" seat pitch. Link to SeatGuru seat chart for this aircraft. (24 as of August 2017.)
It has been rumored the seven "NGBC" aircraft will be retired relatively soon.
The "CIP" variant with new J/F seats is prioritized for transatlantic routes due to the Joint Business Agreement with AA, AY, BA, IB. CIP aircraft scheduled for Hawai'i service may have old "NGBC" types substituted for various reasons up until time of departure.

The aircraft type could change anytime up to boarding, so there is still a chance for the lie flat version. However, TATL flights have higher priority for the 1-2-1 767 and the Hawaii flights get the leftover 767. At least AA is showing the 2-2-2 version so people would expect that version, and be pleasantly surprised if the 1-2-1 version shows up.
To keep things in perspective the 2-2-2 seats are still much better than standard domestic first seats.

I agree that they are better than the standard first class seats, but not welcome when you expect to be able to get some sleep comfortably.

I checked and the flight yesterday went from 2-2-2 to 1-2-1. I'm boarding in an hour, and it's 1-2-1. Just wanted to share my happiness! Apparently, some severe weather this week was challenging for Airlines, so they must have done some shifting.

Just got notification that our 2/2/18 flight from DFW to OGG on a 767 is now a 777-200 and we no longer have the middle seats together. All FC seats are booked, so can't even change to middle seats together, which is what we had.
Also went from Flight #7 to Flight #119 .
I'll have to find the right thread to see if the 777-200 is "worse" than the 767 with lie-flat seats that we were on (chose it specifically for this reason).
Not sure if it'll change again before we leave, so not sure if it's even worth calling AA to see what they can do about seat assignments.
We had seats in the middle in row 7, I believe.

Also, as a data point for the same trip in 2018, similar to others they changed the aircraft from 767 to 777, changing the flight times by several hours causing us some issues. These were award tickets at the 67,500 level, when I called them on this they agreed to change the tickets to a weekend day that normally required 90,000 miles but did it for no extra mileage or charge. So kudos to them for that one.

Please help me decide between DFW-OGG flight #7 Y vs J. It's a daytime flight. Y is saver/22.5k, J anytime/67.5k. IF I can be (relatively) sure that J will stick as 772 (which it is currently showing), then I will likely go for it. But if it gets swapped to a 767 in any config (or anything below 772 standard), I will be disappointed to have paid anytime rate. I am Gold and can select MCE T-24hr. I am flying alone.
What do you think?

Well, there's no more 772s out there flying with the old 3-class config, and I wouldn't think a 772 is going to be swapped with a 763, so I don't think you should worry about having an inferior config.

Highly unlikely the 772 goes to 763 anytime from now until end of Feb 2018, which is when the 763 comes back on the schedule. Typically the flight was 763 and got the occasional 772 lucky upgauge, but if it's scheduled 772 I really doubt they sub a 763 in, unless something really odd happens.

Speaking of schedule, does anyone know the exact schedule for 772 vs 763 on OGG and HNL? It seems from now until mid Nov, it's 763 on weekdays, 772 on weekends. Some time in mid Nov, it switches to 772 entirely. This is based on looking at a few dates.

Just found out today's aa119 dfw-ogg is replaced by an old 767. Why did I waste money on this? Seeking compensation from AA now.
Looks like it switches back to new config?

I'm seeing both OGG flights from DFW as being 1-2-1 today.
I'm on today's 763 to HNL and have been watching the config like a hawk and luckily it seems to still be 1-2-1
