Redeeming Citi ThankYou points / earning miles on American Airlines
Hello
I'm wondering if one can earn American Airlines miles when ThankYou points are redeemed for flights on AA through Citi ThankYou portal.
What's been the experience with others? Does American give you miles for it?
I ask because in my opinion its kind of a cash redemption and not redeeming miles through AAdvantage program. So American should award miles for Citi's ThankYou point redemption.
I may be wrong but want to learn what's been the experience for others.
Thanks in advance.

Since this is a topic best discussed in the native AA forum, I'll move it there.

As long as you're not redeeming miles directly with an airline, AA will see your ticket as a cash one. Effectively, Citi is buying a ticket for you, and letting you pay for that charge with the TY points.
This works for any of the bank points that can be redeemed via their travel portal, whether it's Citi, Amex, or Chase.
