Some things to remember
- Same flight number connections generally render miles as if flown on one single flight, unless you can call and "force" splitting into separate segments.

AAdvantage Status Four Annual Segment Requirement

Does anyone have any recent experience with booking discount economy (earning 25%) with AA status? For example, we see that ZRH-VIE earns 375*25% = 94 base redeemable/lifetime miles.
Would this same flight earn minimum millage guarantee for elites, as mentioned on AA.com here:

If so, would the EQM be 500 miles, per the guarantee, or 500*25% = 125 miles?
I flew MXP-TXL (520) on a discounted W fare recently as a AA elite, but those miles haven't yet posted. I do need to book travel soon, this asking a question here. There are some non-oneworld options that are very appealing - oneworld just isn't good in intra-Europe itineraries, with AB giving peanuts, BA pricing craze (over 600 USD if booking Western-Eastern euorpe via LHR) and IB and AY having very limited networks. I definitely miss Malev, flights were both convenient and cheap.

07/09/13 AIR BERLIN 8433 Y MXP TXL 130 370 500
The RDM was increased by 500, the EQM by 500, EQP by 250, EQS by 1 and MillionMiler by 130. This makes sense - the distance is 520 miles, so 0.25*520 = 130.
Overall, cheap European flights are worth it in classes W or O as an AA elite, but I will still avoid the higher classes (e.g. N), which cost just a little under S.

Earning AA miles / EQM on oneworld, partner & other airlines (consolidated)
I am flying BOS-JFK-LHR-IST this autumn and am hoping to credit the miles for the revenue ticket to AA whilst using Avios to upgrade from World Traveler plus to Club World on the JFK-LHR-JFK, and from Euro traveler to Club Europe on the LHR-IST-LHR.
Could someone help me understand:
1) For the BOS-JFK sector I will be in Y on AA and have EXP status. The flight is a BA codeshare. How would I stand by for a complimentary upgrade?
2) To ensure I receive AA miles credit do I add my AAdvantage number to the reservation - does this impact my ability to upgrade the other sectors? I've read in the BA forum that sometimes if you upgrade the fares don't post even to your Executive Club account: "A normal Avios upgrade from WT+ to Club, should appear on your statement as J/T (i.e. you sat in J but paid for T). Most of the time, it comes up as J/U instead. To correct this, you need to speak to someone at the service centre. This can take anywhere from 1 to 2 weeks to credit." Would I call AA about this or BA if I submitted my AAdvantage number?
3) This is probably a BA board question but is there a waitlist on BA for Avios upgrades that clears like EVIPs or do I need to manually check or set up an Expert Flyer alert? Do seats ever go out empty on BA in J with people seeking to upgrade from WT+ and is there an airport waitlist?

I looked into this recently and from what I could make out there is no waitlisting for upgrades on BA, which presumably means you have to keep asking. BA do not seem to show up at all on expertflyer.
But I would love to hear more about some actual experiences of this - as well as trying to get AA miles in the process.

2) I'm confused about that one: do you want to upgrade with avios but earn the miles on the base fare on AA? That could be tricky.
3)no waitlist for UUA (upgrade using avios): you would need to check regularly. There are people (highly concentrated on the BA board) who check several times a day! Availability does open up at random points, but since both upgrades and avios bookings take the same booking class they do also tend to disappear quickly.

The bit about flights not posting properly is because BA uses the same inventory code for upgrades and pure redemption tickets which sometimes causes the system to think it's an award ticket which earns zero miles. I've had mixed experiences with this - sometimes they post ok, a couple of times I've had to call AA to get the flights to post correctly but they've always posted in the end.

Yes they do. Unlike AA, BA does not open up further upgrade inventory to fill any unsold seats. Once they have reached their allocation (whatever that may be), it is common for flights to depart with empty seats in J with someone in the back who had requested an upgrade. Availability often opens up in the few days before departure but it's not guaranteed. There is no airport waitlist.

Yes. Any time prior to boarding your flight, contact CX and ask them to remove your Asia Miles number and add your AA number instead.
