I'm confused. There has been a sculpture of that type at JFK T8 for months--note the date/timestamp of the photos (Sept 4). I was there today and did not see anything different since Dec 21 (although I admit I did not look super closely).
Not sure if the photos are incorrectly matched with the article, i.e. whether there is another, newer sculpture by the same artist somewhere else in the terminal....

The original blog post is exactly 1 year old.
Friday, December 21st doesn't occur in the 2013 calendar; it did happen in 2012.

For Immediate Release: December 19, 2012
New Rochelle, NY – Internationally acclaimed 3D Pop artist Charles Fazzino and American Airlines will stand together on Friday afternoon, December 21st to unveil the artist’s latest creation: a 6 foot, by 6 foot, by 7 foot rotating sculpture of a model American Airlines airplane. The plane, which took Charles Fazzino more than four months to complete, pays homage to all of the destinations to which American Airlines flies from New York City. It is a stunning creation, typical of Fazzino’s signature three-dimensional and dazzling style.
One may want to compare how similar the December 2013 "airchive.com" blog post is to the December 2012 news release, with the exception of adding in the part about making it in 2013.
Oh, and the "original" blog post quoted by OP is attributed to Archive.com. It's actually Airchive.com

Also, it's listed as a 767 though it looks an awful lot like an A300 to me...

I think you got tricked by a bad blog post. Whoever wrote the article you saw actually changed the story to say that this news from December 2012 just happened.
Cheers.
