AA3400 Emergency Landing 5 MAR: EAGLE ROCKS!
Rare for me to post on FlyerTalk but this is an amazing story (and not just because we survived the landing). My wife and I were aboard Eagle Flight 3400 (DFW-MLI) on March 5. Pilot declared emergency about 25 minutes out. Smoke in cockpit. Captain Andrei turned our little Embraer around on a dime and was able to get us down within 10-15 minutes on Majors Airfield (home of L3 Communications). The flight crew was astounding and amazing. The Flight Attendant, David, was more than up to this task. He took us through emergency landing and evacuation like a pro. Having personally flown DFW-MLI on MQ countless times, I'm glad to hear that you and everyone on-board were ok!

Being I grew up in the MLI area, I too have taken this flight countless times and thankfully nothing like this has ever happened. Sounds like the crew was excellent on all accounts. The following link has some ATC transmissions from the female pilot. Kudos to her, the FO and the FA for a job well done!

25,000 miles issued within 12 hours of my throwing the emergency exit door onto the tarmac at Majors Airfield (hope they don't charge me for damaging the plane ...) I thought 25K was pretty good until I saw on the "compensation" thread that they give out 10K miles for things like in-flight entertainment issues or overhead light not working. I'd like to know how many flights in a year require passengers to escape a plane through the over-wing emergency exit door and then stand around on the tarmac in freezing weather waiting for 15-20 minutes for First Responders to arrive on the scene?

On the ERJ, yes it is. Especially on the one-seat side if you leave it on the seat like you're instructed on many aircraft types, the door hangs out into the aisle, hence blocking access to the exit.

Sounds like the crew did a good job. FYI--the captain probably earned about $40 for that flight and the FO probably made about $19. Wonder why they are talking about a "real" pilot shortage coming?

I would definitely agree that it does seem a bit paltry considering what people have gotten for other... less exciting situations. Although surely you will hear more from them later?

I've been more or less exclusive AE routes for the last few months and will be for the better part of the next year. Those old ERJs & CRJs always worry me - this event definitely did not help my confidence.
Really glad to hear how well the crew handled things. Very interesting that you found yourself in the exit row for this as well - well done with you and your wife responding to the pressure & task at hand.
