A321 Transcon / A321T / 32B enters service January 2014, bookable now (consolidated)

American Airlines plans to start flying its brand-new, specially configured A321 aircraft between Los Angeles and New York JFK on Jan. 7, according to an internal email that went out to employees this week.
Quote:
As we prepare for this arrival, on Sunday, Aug. 11, American will load our new A321Ts into our reservation systems, allowing customers and travel agencies to view seat map and route information, as well as purchase tickets onboard the new aircraft.
Quote:
The A321Ts will initially operate two daily departures between JFK and LAX beginning Jan. 7, and will offer an additional three daily departures beginning Jan. 15, increasing to six daily departures Jan. 31. Service between JFK and SFO will begin later in 2014.

Ahhh. So, will they still have 9 flights a day between LAX-JFK after the 6 A321T's are scheduled? We'll see on Sunday!

AA has previously announced a "shuttle" like service for the LAX JFK transcons. Since they won't take delivery of all the 321Ts at the same time you are likely to see a phase in of additional flights over the course of the delivery period.

Thank you for the post! I'm going to try to get on this one.

Anyone want to hazard a guess as to whether any Z inventory will be available on the initial few flights?

The choice of LAX-JFK flights on which to roll out the 321s are a bit odd: surely the one which is most in need of the new F and J seats is the AA30 redeye?

Actually 8/10!

What I meant was the remaining three 762 flights were after the rollout of the equipment to support six dailies.

I'm going to argue that AA did not announce that the JFK-LAX transcons would be increased to an hourly shuttle-like service; rather, one rogue executive prematurely spilled the beans on what was obviously being considered.

Virasb Vahidi, who was not authorized to speak for the company, let it slip. The company's repudiation of his statements within hours made it clear that the company has not yet announced the shuttle-like service. I hope it happens, but as yet, AA hasn't announced it.

I think it is arguable which red-eye is the one in "most need" of new F/J seats.

AA10 (dep 9:30pm arr 5:50AM)
or
AA30 (dep 11:35pm arr 8:10AM)
?

If I have to take a red eye for an early business meeting the next day I would prefer AA10 which is actually getting the new A321?

So is the inaugural likely the 7:30 JFK-LAX and not the 7:00 LAX-JFK? I'm not really sure how these things work...

I'm not sure any flight needs the new seats more than any other. I'm sure that operational considerations (including revenue maximization) are the major factors in determining the schedule, not "need."
