We would also like to clear up some of the questions that have been posed in this thread so far.

In regards to the ability to filter and sort flight search results:
We will continue to gather customer feedback and optimize the new shopping experience so that customers can efficiently find the flights and options that best suit their individual needs. Additional enhancements will be introduced in the near future.

In regards to the layout of the website and cross-browser compatibility:
We will continue to optimize the new shopping experience across browsers and operating systems. If you can clear your cache and take another look we are finding that some of the layout issues are resolved.

In regards to the value of no change fee versus refundable fares:
Choice Essential and Choice Plus fares do include a no-change-fee option. If a change is made on an itinerary booked with Choice Essential or Choice Plus the customer will receive a credit for the full amount of the fare to be applied to a new itinerary. If the new itinerary is not booked with another bundled fare, the customer will not continue to receive the no-change-fee option. In other words, when booking a fare with the no-change-fee option the customer is entitled to change their itinerary; and if a change is made, the customer will need to decide if another bundled fare with the no-change-fee option is desired. The refundable fare options remain the same and are noted as ‘refundable’ in the shopping display.

In regards to the change fee benefit for elite customers:
Elite customers must purchase a Choice Essential or a Choice Plus fare to gain access to the no-change-fee option. Unfortunately, no-change-fee is not a new elite benefit.

In regards to the question about outbound and return selections:
If you select a Choice fare on the outbound and then a Choice Essential on the return (or a Choice Essential on the outbound and Choice Plus on return), the upsell does apply to both the departure and return.

In regards to where the new fare options can be booked:
Our new fare choices are an integral part of American’s merchandising strategy. Ultimately, American’s objective is to improve the customer experience by offering valuable products and services bundled together with the base fare. American has published these new fare choices for all distribution channels to access, but the technology used at various GDSs and agencies will determine if and how these products are available for sale. The best way to gain access to these bundled services is to book directly with AA.com or AA Reservations initially.

Please continue to let us know if you have more questions about these changes. Thank you!
Can we please have the facility to see aircraft type on initial price page, it only offers on time %

AA this codicil should be made much more evident in your 'disclaimer' otherwise it appears somewhat like a 'bait and switch' of old....not compatible with the new age of transparency.......
It seems very transparent to me.

You basically get full "credit" that you can apply to any fare you want, and the rules of the new fare you purchase determines the rules for the new ticket. In other words, if you use the unused value from a Plus fare to a normal fare, you lose the Plus bundle; if you use the unused value from a Plus fare to purchase an Essentials fare, you get the Essentials bundle only; and if you use the unused value from a Plus fare to purchase a Plus fare, you get, you guessed it, the Plus bundle.

Nothing has changed here, except that now you have three times as many non-Y fares (the -1 normal fares, the -2 "Essentials" fares, and the -7 "Plus" fares), each with their own slightly different fare rules and some with additional non-fare extras.

For the record I pulled the category 16 rules (penalties) from the lowest ("O") transcon -7 fare ("Plus") fare; unfortunately www.aa.com removes all formatting, making it really, really dense to read.

I can't find words to express my disbelief that AmericanAirlines did not know that a massive amount of customers DO use the sorting option (and the VIEW ALL button).

If AmericanAirlines was in a RUSH to release the new system and has as a priority to implement the Choice, Choice+ and all the other up-sells to start making money quickly...that's fine.

But does AmericanAirlines realize that NOT having a sorting option makes ME (and others) go to other websites (such as kayak or orbitz) or call the EXP desk to search for the best value - most convenient flights/less$$$ - and therefore I (and others) won't see all the new up-sell offerings on such websites?

Worst of all, it seems that the flights pop up with no discernible order.

Now, rather than focusing on exploring the new features, I am just annoyed that there are no sorting options and don't want to use the website.

Is AmericanAirlines that not so smart that they thought we were not going to realize about the elimination of the sorting option?

Unbelievable. The "near future" has to be now. In the meantime, I will be looking for fares in kayak, matrix-ita or with the EXP desk.

P.S. I forgot to add "We will continue to gather customer feedback"??? Are you kidding me? What else do they want to hear? The response has been overwhelming. More customer feedback!!! geez...JUST BRING BACK THE @#$ SORTING OPTION!

You would be best to more clearly separate the business American Airlines, some of whose employees made the decisions we see, from the presence AmericanAirlines, a spokesperson that likely dd not have much to do with these decisions and is relaying information from/to the company. Rather than criticizing someone who likely had little responsibility for this, let's hope that this person can help us get this fixed.

Now, as to the nimrod who made this decision, heap all the scorn you want

Cheers.

Ok. Thanks for the clarification. Yes, I was not referring to the spokesperson, but to the company and whoever was in charge of the re-designed web interface (Marketing and IT, most likely? I can totally see IT telling Marketing (or whoever) but don't you want a sorting option? Answer: I don't care, just deploy it NOW! )

Please continue to let us know if you have more questions about these changes. Thank you!
It's unbelievable that the response is not simply: "Sorry we blew that one. We're getting it fixed as soon as possible." I hope they get on top of this quickly. I just had a choice between DL and AA for a flight and I booked on DL because it was easier on delta.com to find flights that worked. Considering how bad the DL website redesign is, that's saying something.

As to "Choice Plus" and "Choice Essential" I think AA may be shooting itself in the foot by creating a lot of confusion. The vague names certainly don't help and the difference between the two is not at all clear. That may discourage customers from choosing either. Better to have a single upsell bundle like WN's business select: no change fee, early boarding, free drink, extra FF miles, SDC, ability to select exit and premium seats.

And another thing...

I think's it's clever that they adjust the features of each fare to reflect my status, by saying things like "3rd bag free", but I am often using AA.com logged in as me to buy tickets for non-status family members. It's very hard to figure out what they will get for each of these more expensive fares.

Do the searching not-logged-in and you will see the no-status version of the perks. Of course, they could have a further choice to select status level (whether logged in or not) at which to see the benefits, but the number of controls starts to get cumbersome at some point.

Cheers.

BA.com now easier to book on that AA.com... BIG change

With increased OW integration, I book longhaul multi leg trips on BA/AA frequently.

I always used to book them on AA.com, as the booking interface was so much easier to use, plus gave me more flight options than BA.com.

As of the new AA system change today... not even close.. it has totally flipped over.

Perhaps it doesn't matter much to AA, but I have well over $10k in travel to book in the next few weeks, much of which will be flown on AA... but as it stands today I'll be booking it all on BA.com, not AA.com.

Actually even if you're not fully logged in you still see things from the perspective of your status. You'd have to uncheck the "Remember me" box, then log in, then log out before you could get a "pure" no-status experience.

It's all sort of moot for me, though, as I would be extremely unlikely to opt for these extra cost options under any circumstances.

You can click the headers of the fare categories to get a chart showing what each fare gets you, and a drop down can show different (or no) statuses.

Thanks for screwing me up with a Xmas Eve booking that is actually an overnight connection making me arrive at my destination a day after Xmas. Naturally it is my fault for not reading it properly, however, the "warning" is in small gray, practically invisible print. The original way had that booking in a yellow square to warn about it.

To fix the issue, all the prices are much higher now and I think changing it to this new HTML Silicon Valley created invention (outside the law threshold) of less access to what users want to do----in the hopes that every click that yields a frozen screen with a small twirly thingie in the middle to pray that the next screen will appear---is a bundle of hooey.

That's my feedback. F'd me up.

Go back to 2001 websites using Windows 8. Thanks.
