Just booked two flights on 738's... Economy rows are 7-30, first three rows in economy are MCE, blocks are gone on 16 and 17 B and E... And this is on a SERIOUSLY elite-heavy route.
Gone are the glory days of reasonably comfortable seating on 738's...

It sounds like some things have changed recently. Do some configurations still have the middle seats blocked in Row 16?
I'm trying to decide between 16F and 15F. Both are available. On AA.com, 16E doesn't show a seat number when I mouse-over it, so that leads me to believe it is still blocked? Is that right? Is 16F the way to go?

You should be able to check if it is the new configuration by seeing whether there is a row 7, and whether there are non-MCE seats in front of the exit row. Both would indicate the new configuration.

It looks like coach starts at row 8. I can't see F so I'm not sure whether there is a row 7. Also can't tell whether there are non-MCA seats in front of the exit row because almost all seats are taken. (This is for a flight tomorrow). 16F and 15F are still available.

Others have reported similar observations. I think the best guess is that they've blocked MCE rows in case there's an equipment swap to one of the new planes that have fewer MCE rows, in which case MCE could be oversold.

Have three trips to LAX/SFO in Nov. So far I am on old config... will report back if I get (un)lucky and there is equipment change.
I suppose the best time to take pictures is after everybody gets off??
