New AE flights to ASE

Maybe we should have a consolidated route expansion thread?

"American Eagle Airlines, the regional affiliate of American Airlines, today announced it will begin nonstop seasonal service between Aspen/Pitkin County Airport in Aspen/Snowmass, Colo., and both Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport and Los Angeles International Airport beginning Dec. 15. Eagle will operate the daily trips with two-class CRJ-700 jet aircraft. The service will run from Dec. 15 through April 2, 2012; then resume June 14 through Aug. 20, 2012. Customers may begin booking the new service beginning Monday, Aug. 1."

This corresponds to Delta and Frontier pulling out of ASE, so there should be some unmet demand. However AA/AE seem to fly to a lot of small airports in Colorado.

Glad to see a little growth. My guess is the CR7 will run on a LAX-ASE-DFW-ASE-LAX circuit.

Boy, that would have been great a couple weeks ago when I had to fly AA to DEN and then United to ASE!

This appears to be the plan. With only 40 minutes on the ground between each flight the delays could really pile up.

Agreed,

However

UAX flights are often only scheduled with 30 minute turn arounds and when running late often turn in 15 minutes.

It would be good if these flights will be code share with QF for all the Australians who go skiing in Aspen - of which there will be plenty since the Australian dollar just hit a all time high (since floating in 1983?)
bad news for any Americans wanting to come to Australia.

Frontier still fly in & out of Aspen.
IIRC:
They announced they were leaving the Aspen market, partly because of a fleet rationalisation, but were unable to get out out of the lease they have on the Q400 aeroplanes.

(not 100% sure on all the details)

UPDATE: February 2012.
F9 have now announced they are abandoning the DEN-ASE market for good at the end of the 2012 ski season (mid April 2012)

(not 100% sure on all the details)

Changed up your post a bit for timeline purposes.

Those are really tight turnarounds even for the CRJs. A slight delay anywhere will trigger a domino effect.

Yeah I think this is going to be a regularly delayed flight especially with the potential weather issues in Aspen. Still, it's a great addition to the American Eagle operation at LAX

Useless Schedule

......for anyone not flying into and out of LAX...... these schedules offer **NO** connecting possibilities for anyone not originating out of LAX, even on the west coast such as SFO.

Also, the EGE-LAX flights this year have been moved to very late departure, offering no connecting possibilities to the rest of west coast. Who schedules these services at AA? Are they completely oblivious to the fact that SFO has a substantial flyer base that would take these seasonal services?

Last year the LAX-EGE flights departed so early that there were no possibilities for SFO connections, this year it is the reverse, and these ASE flights are no good both directions.

The UA elite match to 1K is looking better and better, with the demise of the HNL flight and reduction of one JFK flight……

The fares on these flights are ridiculously high. Over 2x what you would pay to fly on UA (at least from AUS).

What about SBA, SAN, and FAT? I know LAX-SBA has a 9:30 PM flight (I'm usually on it), and I generally see flights leaving the Eagle terminal around the same time for SAN and FAT.

Seriously AA - add a 9:30pm or 10pm LAX-SFO CR7 which turns around at 6am....
