Any recent reports of provisional Gold being offered for PLAT Challenges for those with equivalent or greater status on other airlines? (signing up a family member who is a UA 1K)

Don't (AA) HKMLWV always earn 100% points?

Can't remember the alphabet, but V codes get 100% points.

^ Thank you, pandaperth! So a Platinum Challenge on a carefully constructed RTW ticket will get me there.

You're welcome

Your ticket wouldn't need to be too carefully constructed:
- 10K miles on AA coded flights if in Economy*
- 6.7K miles if in business or first
(in the 3-month challenge window of course)

And of course all the EQPs earned from the whole trip count towards gaining status the regular way

*Mrs P and I flew PER-SYD-JFK on AA codeshare flights and completed the challenge in 2 flights in 2 days. Got access to lounges, double RDMs, upgrade stickers etc for the rest of our RTW (which took another 11 months to complete). Great value for money -especially as we were probably two of the last to enrol for free (thanks to people on this forum who forewarned of changes)

Challenge Math

Was wondering if some local members wouldn't mind checking my math in regards to a platinum challenge. I started the challenge on June 15 for $240 and they gave me a status match of Gold during sign-up. Below are my completed trips and upcoming trips with my feable attempt at the math:

Date Miles Fare Mult. Points
6/18 1523 N 0.5 761.5
7/12 802 V 1 802
7/12 528 V 1 528
7/16 528 N 0.5 264
7/17 802 Q 0.5 401
7/23 644 S 0.5 322
7/23 644 P 1.5 966
7/23 802 P 1.5 1203
7/23 500 (Actual 264)Y 1.5 750
7/24 500 (Actual 264)Y 1.5 750
7/24 802 P 1.5 1203
8/4 1023 Q 0.5 511.5
8/8 1023 Q 0.5 511.5
8/23 1376 S 0.5 688
8/27 1376 Q 0.5 688

Total 12873 10349.5

Thanks for all the help in advance.

My wife just completed a Gold Challenge and we will probably sign her up for Platinum as well. On a side note, I informed my boss of these challenges and he is now Gold and going Platinum.

Thanks to everyone for the info here. I'm starting to love FT!

AA Gold Challenge or maybe even Platinum

Hey guys,

Since I am really trying to get to AA Gold, I am pondering about AA Gold Challenge. First, I know it's $100 for the challenge fee, fine, but after you get into the program, you need to earn the EQP 5000 for Gold and EQP 10000 for Platinum. Would that Elite status be automatically extended for a year once you qualify for the program?

I looked at the Flyer Wiki very carefully this time, and we all know getting Q class is the cheapest and easiest way to get to the challenge. Suppose I wanna do JFK to SFO, that's about 2.5k miles, round-trip 5k miles, which will be 2.5k EQP. Then I just have to do one more time between 1st and 16th for each month to get to EQP. so JFK-->SFO Q class round trip twice, then done? It sounds pretty easy to get done, but I have to make sure if I am correct. I know Q class is excluded for...

**Q -- excludes transatlantic fares booked in Q and equivalent booking codes on participant airlines

Let me know if there's anything I am missing. If it's that easy, then I'd prefer to do it instead of cracking for either 30 segments or 25k miles for a year. @_@

Sorry I didn't find out the main thread before I posted mine....Here are my questions and concerns:

If you start your challenge after Jun 16 you will maintain status for over a year. Qualify this summer, stay elite till Feb. 2012

Just Signed Up

Just want to say thanks to everyone for all the posts and knowledge sharing. I just signed up for a Platinum Challenge. I have a rt booked in V for business and a mileage run for RDU-FRA labor day weekend. I made Gold on a hope and a prayer last year thanks to DEQM. I certainly don't want to lose my low-tier status!

I'm preparing for a huge trip next year for my 30th birthday and I have a lot of other smaller trips planned over the next year. Platinum will certainly help me rack up the miles for my upgrades!

I would not have known anything about positioning flights, booking into specific fare classes, expert flyer and all of the other tools if it weren't for you guys. Thanks so much for sharing and I'll check in to let you know how the Challenge is going.

Thanks for Clamko for the answer from the other thread.

Now I have another question. I have about 2500 MQP and a few upcoming reservations already in place in my AA account. If I start my challenge now, would the MQP and those reservations count for the challenge, as long as I can get them all done between the 1st and 16th for each month?
