I normally chose hot > cold and beef/chicken > fish on airplanes, but I was considering actually trying the Salmon.

I do have to say that AA's transcon lunch catering is one area which is lacking compared to UA (and presumably DL).

Flew this one a few times in the fall. Definitely not a true Dinner service, but it was still substantial - I think one hot option and a salad option. Cookie instead of ice cream and no shrimp appetizer.

Did you ask for the menus? Sometimes the crews are lazy about handing them out, especially for redeyes and breakfasts. But they DO have them--and I like to collect them (I have a huge archive going back decades). Only occasionally does catering forget to load them.

I agree but I've been surprisingly impressed with the salmon. I also love the cold steak salad with noodles and ginger dressing.

Arrives EWR @ 12:10 a.m.

Beverage orders taken after takeoff

Cookies (couldn't tell the flavor - they were beige and very sweet)

I'm glad I had a burger at Shula's before boarding the plane!

AA flight #1999 - EWR to MIA

AA flight #1999 - EWR to MIA
Departs EWR @ 5:20 p.m.
Arrives MIA @ 8:40 p.m.
Dinner

Beverage orders taken after takeoff
Hot towels
Hot nuts

Choice of (as described by FA):
Chicken w/ pasta & vegetables
Pasta w/ red sauce

I chose the chicken dish, which has previously been described as "sage chicken". Chicken breast still had skin attached with a small sage leaf underneath. Chicken came with a tiny ramekin of sauce (not sure what the flavor was), macaroni and vegetables (green beans). Tray also came with a side salad & turtle cheesecake.

Steak salad with Noodles is now my FAVORITE AA Snack and better than most full meals! I hope they keep this in rotation!

Why, 915pm departure is out of the norm for a meal or snack on this route.

MIA-DEN
2040 (8:40pm) Departure
Snack
Boeing 737-800 with the new sky interior! ^
Wi-fi enabled, though slower than normal tonight.
4 Hours 30 Minutes flight duration

No PDB, despite waiting for late connecting passenger

Very talkative FA over the PA, instructing passengers to clean-up after themselves or else the "hard-working" FA's will have to do it, and the FA's will likely do anywhere from 21-30 trash runs during the flight to account for the quick turn they have to do in Denver. Thought it was unnecessary, over the top, and classless, especially on a late-night flight where people are trying to sleep.

Hot nuts and drink of choice served after takeoff. I asked for a Jack and Coke, and was given 2 jacks!^ The FA remained quite talkative.

Choice of the aforementioned steak salad or the open-faced chicken sandwich. FEBO was followed. I had pre-ordered a meal, which apparently meant nothing. I asked for the open-faced chicken sandwich, but was given the steak salad...ok...I could have gone either way, so didn't say anything. I agree with others that the steak salad was delicious. A salt and pepper packet and ginger dressing were also on the tree, along with a wine glass. I chose the syrah, and found to be acceptable.

Choice of hot cookies followed the entree. I chose the chocolate chunk, which as usual was delicious.

Another round of drinks followed, and I was again given 2 more Jacks. Several more drink runs were offered by the attentive and still talkative FA, but I cut myself off.

Mints non-existant prior to landing.

Overall, a good flight.

I flew from LAX to JFK on the 7am flight Tuesday morning, and was completely disappointed with the meal. Instead of offering a proper breakfast, or even lunch, they served a bad excuse for a panini. Of course, there also was no ice cream sundae.

I can understand if they don't have a real breakfast or lunch on a short flight, or even a 3-hour flight in the same time zone... but it was pretty disappointing that they didn't offer anything better on a 5 hour flight where the destination is 3 hours ahead.
