Getting to Israel on AA?
I have AA miles, enough for an international Saver award.
I'm trying to get to Israel for spring break.
Does AA not fly to TLV?
Can I not use AA award miles on LY?

Did you even look at AA.com? I found this in literally 7 seconds:
https://www.aa.com/i18n/AAdvantage/e...lines/elAl.jsp
Whether you'll find available award tickets is a whole different matter.

You'll need to call AA and inquire about award seat availability.
Assuming you want to go for spring break this year, you may have waited far too long to plan your trip, as others may have grabbed any available award seats last April or May. Good luck.

The next almost predictable hurdle is "I want to use AA miles but avoid those *$$*$ fees", which way should I go?

tlv is in asia & saver is 45k each way.....
you could look for an award to eastern europe & buy a ticket from there if you don't have 90k.....

TLV is in AA's Middle East/India zone, not Asia. But yes, North America to Middle East is 45K miles one way in Coach.
From October 15 to May 15, one can combine an off-peak North America to Europe Coach award with a Europe to Middle East Coach award and effectively get from North America to the Middle East for only 40K AA miles each way.

When redeeming AA miles, where a destination is on the map is irrelevant; it's where the destination is according to AA's zone definitions that counts, and that determines the number of miles needed, as well as whether one must route via the Atlantic or the Pacific.
So TLV may be in "Asia," but it's not in "Asia 1" or "Asia 2" as far as the AAdvantage program is concerned.
