New [delayed] destination: Arcata-Eureka, Humboldt County, California (ACV)

As mentioned in another thread, AA was considering starting service to Arcata. The service has been given the go ahead, and twice daily ERJ service from LAX will launch on June 14th and can be booked starting this weekend.

Do you have any source from AA? Is that official release from AA?

So BUR isn't profitable yet Arcata will be?

FlyMeToTheLooneyBin Mar 23, 2012 1:23 am

Very interesting indeed. UA has a monopoly at that airport ever since QX left two years ago.

Not talking about Arcadia.

This is GREAT news, as ACV has suffered from UA's pricing power on this monopolized route.

Some background on this venture/route as reported by the Times Standard:

I've lived in cali all my life and had to look this place up. Anyone here visit? Hope it's profitable.

It's a beautiful location, redwoods on one side and ocean on the other. And renowned for its... uh, cash crops.

ACV-LAX will be a monopoly so who knows how much AA will charge for this flight. UA flies to SFO, SMF and CEC.

I'll bet that AA would take a second look at BUR if Burbank, Glendale and Pasadena were willing to pony up some revenue guarantees like Eagle is seeking from Eureka/Arcata.

BUR is well served by the other carriers, so need to. AA couldn't compete so they left. That's not the market's fault.

On an O/D basis, sure. But if one must travel ACV-JFK for example it's either ACV-LAX-JFK on AA or ACV-SFO-JFK on UA so for all intents and purposes the two are competing on the route, which the fares should reflect.
