Unofficial guide to AAdvantage - elite status, Gold/Plat challenge ...

I have to say AAdvantage is an interesting program with its many "undocumented" features. These include many of the unstated benefits of elite status and of course the Gold and Plat challenge, a perennial favorite topic of discussion in this forum.

I found, however, that information on these undocumented features isn't easy to come by. Perhaps it's more accurate to say that there is a lot of uncertainty and vagueness in the information, none the least of which is due to different AAdv reps telling us different things.

So, I've put together an "Unofficial guide to AAdvantage" specializing in consolidating information on these undocumented features with particular focus given to the topic of the Gold/Plat challenge.

Here it is:
FewMiles' Unofficial guide to AAdvantage
(http://home.webflyer.com/fewmiles/AA/)

NOTE: This initial FewMiles' Unofficial Guide to AAdvantage site was replaced with a Canada-based site from Shaw Communications. Neither exists any longer, and they're too old to have been archived by Wayback Machine, etc.

There are still some information gaps to fill in, but I'll get to it. Enjoy!

FewMiles..

Great idea! I am about to hit EXP and looking at AA's web site, all I know is that I get a nifty new luggage tag, longer upgrade window, and the rest is quite nebulous...

Another undocumented feature...
Confirmation from aa.com that after EXP, even you don't fly at all, you remain at least Plat.
Here is the response:
".....The following rule applies:

Executive Platinum members will be given a "grace" year as Platinum
members. If after that grace year they fail to maintain the Platinum
membership, they will be downgraded to Gold."
I can relax for another year...

"Good on you", as the Aussies taught me to say during the Olympics.

Nice site FewMiles. Thanks for putting it together.

Remember the recently added benefits for EXP. Free upgrades on full Y fares (same requirements as electronic upgrades but no charge) and the waived AAdvantage award expedite fees.

Perfect. As I'm considering defecting from DL it was nice to be able to learn so much in so little time reading your site. Thanks!

FewMiles, thank you for this! Its a great source of information already.

I think one thing that might really add to it is some scans of some of the things that get sent by AA - welcome to MM, updgrade certs etc. PremEx has these on his site and I've always found these interesting to look at because I don't get any of this stuff.

0524 are you sure that wasn't "Good on ya". The average Australian is very laid back (some might call it lazy - especially if they met me ) and I doubt most of us would put in the extra effort to shape the mouth for the ooo sound

A great piece of work! You've put a lot of effort into it. Well done!

P.S. Do you have any concrete info when challenges end? Wheteher it is 31st or 1st for challenges that started on 1st and 15th or 16th for the ones that started on 16th? The answers from AAdvantage have even further confused me...
