American Airlines CEO Tom Horton announced AA's new branding going forward at 10 AM Eastern time 17 Jan 2013. His address about the new branding and 77W color scheme rollout can be seen here. N.B. would look much better if the tail area didn't have that last bottom red stripe on the body
also, i know they're "peeling" the red into an eagle profile, but it wouldn't peel that way in flight. of course, they couldn't have the eagle flying backwards, either.

Today is a sad day in aviation. United said goodbye to the Tulip last year, Delta messed up their planes about 15 years ago and now AA is ready to destroy their Eagle? Please do not take away the iconic eagle to make for some crap graphic design! Let the Eagle live!!
