"Snack or Brunch"

Love Denver, but I'm start to be seriously honked off by AA DEN service. It's one thing to schedule more crappy CR7s instead of MD80s but at least don't lie about meal service or don't screw up catering. Last flight of the night has been changed from dinner service MD80 to snack service CR7. Ugh, I really hate this effing plane.

But last night was pathetic. Add in a clueless ORD-based Eagle FA and I'm thinking UA isn't looking so bad anymore.
Yes, this does say "Snack or Brunch"

I don't think so.

When I questioned the FA, she said no that's all there is, no "dinner" tonight. I wasn't expecting dinner, just a proper AA snack, not this crap. Then 10 minutes after our "snack", she brings around a ramekin of nuts.

When I say I'm considering UA, I'm serious. Here is what they served on my 2:57 DEN-IAD red-eye Saturday night. OK, it's not SQ or CX, but at least they're making an effort. In contrast, longer SFO-ORD AA red-eyes get nothing.

Come on AA. If you're not going to serve a snack, don't advertise it. At least then, I can stop at Frontera.

If you are a regular on ORD-DEN, then yes, UA may be the airline for you. But in general AA meals > UA. And UA doesn't serve real meals on ANY of its many CR7/E70 flights.

That late ORD-DEN is listed as a snack so I'm assuming this is a catering error.

While I'd certainly agree that the UA snack in this case looks a lot better than the AA snack, "snack" is a rather ambiguous term and is not consistent across the different airlines. A better comparison would be your AA flight vs. the 8:20pm UA flight, where the F seats are pretty comparable and you would have had "refreshments", which IME would be even more limited than what you got on AA.

I'm not asking for consistency across airlines. Just AA. They advertise Snack. I know what an AA Snack is and this was not a Snack. If you don't want to serve a Snack, tell me. At least with UA I get mainline, and if I see Refreshments and know there is no meal, I can eat before... or pick an alternative routing for YUL-DEN. As sts603 suggests, I'm thinking/hoping this was just a catering error or a really stupid FA who didn't check her cart. I've complained to AA and will report the response.

You have a point. My experience with AA is still limited, but I do recall having some "snacks" on AA recently that would have qualified as lunches elsewhere, including at least once on a CR7. Does seem like either catering screwed up or this should not have been coded as a snack flight in the first place.

Catering issue

Update on the absence of a Snack on last night's ORD-DEN AA 3629:

Quick and satisfactory response to my complaint of less than 2 hours ago...

We have received your email and I am sorry we did not provide snacks as planned. I can understand your disappointment.
I discovered that because of the substitution of the equipment, the snacks were not loaded in the interest of an on time departure. I regret our decision caused you difficulty. Still, I have forwarded a copy of your email to our appropriate management staff and am certain that your comments will be used constructively.
As a gesture of goodwill, we have added 5,000 bonus miles to your AAdvantage® account. This adjustment will be reflected in your account very soon.

Glad to hear that it was a catering thing and not a new policy.
Why the FA wasn't told or didn't say anything is another issue.

That still is concerning that they didn't bother to announce that. People rely on in-flight meals to, you know, not be hungry...

AA #1391 - MIA to DEN

AA flight #1391 - MIA to DEN
Departs MIA @ 5:15 p.m.
Dinner

No PDB, not even water
Hot towel
Hot nuts w/ drink orders

I had pre-selected my entree, which was acknowledged by the FA. Choices were:
Salmon w/ rice & broccoli rabe (my choice)
cheese ravioli w/ red sauce
Choice of white or wheat roll

I pre-chose the salmon dish, which I regretted as soon as I saw it. Small piece of over cooked salmon with rice and brocoli rabe. Plate came with a tiny ramekin of sauce (not sure what the flavor was). Tray also came with a Greek salad (feta, olives, cucumbers, tomatoes ) & 4 shrimp cocktail. I ate the shrimp, picked at the salad that had too much dressing, and couldn't stomach more than two bites of the salmon. I spent the next 5 minutes longingly eyeing my neighbor's pasta.

After dinner trays were removed, FA came by with what FTers lovely call the ice cream sludge. I believe this one was the Heath Bar crunch, but FA didn't offer any details. I was pretty hungry since I didn't eat the salmon, so the ice cream and double Amerreto on the rocks was the highlight of my meal.

After dinner service, FAs disappeared into their lair.

04.04.13, DFW-DCA, Dinner

04.04.13, DFW-DCA (737, old seats), 6:40p departure, dinner

Lukewarm nuts, towels

Choice of two entrees:
1. Sage chicken
2. Pasta shells with sun-dried tomato sauce

Out of the chicken by the time they got to my seat, so ordered the pasta. Was lukewarm, nearly cold. Salad on side was good; cheesecake for dessert.

Service was nice, although the pilot used the lav right after the trays were served and lingered in the galley area (with the cart blocking the way), so tray removal was slow.

Lunch

No PDB (late arrival, rushed turn) but great crew nonetheless. Proper nut service with first round of drinks. @:-)
Second round of drinks B4 lunch. Choice of chicken salad or beef tenderloin. Beef tenderloin? For lunch? Seriously? Even the cheap Smoking Lune Syrah wasn't gross.

A little small and well done, but it is lunch. And that Thai sauce is a winner. ^
Choice of oatmeal cranberry (yuk) or CC cookies. Here's hoping Parker doesn't eff this up. Please.
