AA -- please stop your continued leadership in the race to the bottom in coach service and comfort standards. None of your marketing wizardry will convince your loyal flyers that this is a good thing, especially on long haul routes!

But the loyal flyers will be in MCE. I'd give up 1 inch of width in order to get 4 inches of legroom. I think that this is a good deal for loyal flyers.

MCE will be 3-3-3, so the same width as the current configuration, no?

Still, even for loyal flyers, the prospect of having to choose a middle MCE vs. an aisle/window Y is definitely

This is grinding.

The only good that can come of this is on less crowded flights, there's the possibility of one empty seat in between a window and aisle.

But as someone who's enjoyed 5 seats across to myself, this is a most unwelcome development if true.

We did NZ's 3-4-3 configuration on their 777-300 last month AKL-LAX. Didn't care for the tight width, narrow aisles, and just more crowded feel to it. Felt like the lav-to-pax ratio was worse with everyone packed in, but I don't know if that is actually true compared to 9-across lav situation. In any case, I won't voluntarily fly 10-across in a 777 again if I can help it. I'll stick to UA's 9-across, thanks anyway AA.

yeah, this is a real downer. I've had window and aisle to myself before on 2-5-2 and it was great, but I wonder how crowded this 10 across is going to be.

Pay for, use miles to upgrade or use an award and fly in J or find an airline with $200 fares and 40" pitch and 24" wide seats.

Everyone wants everything and not to pay for it.

Remember the 300 lb guy who file suit against Wendy's for not making bigger seats? I wonder if he will sue AA for not letting him squeeze into a Y seat.

No need to draw a caricature. Nobody's demanding $200 fares+24" width; in fact I'd happily pay a 10% premium for 9-across instead of 10-across, but since the vast majority of customers don't share my opinion the market won't provide what I want.

WOOF... come on up front, the upgrade's on me!

AA has done a really good job (from what we've seen) with the F and J cabin re-design. Sadly they missed the opportunity to introduce a true premium economy product, especially in light of the higher density 3-4-3 Y cabin configuration.
