Bonus miles for paid F and J for 2015 "currency promo" (consolidated)
AKA "Currency Promo"

Link to offer on aa.com

Earn the most miles in 2015

In 2015, we’ll be the only major airline that rewards your loyalty up to three times – that’s miles for the distance you fly, the fare you buy and your elite status.

Through December 31, 2015, you can earn a bonus on top of your base mileage, class of service bonus and elite status bonus when you fly on a purchased First or Business class ticket. These additional bonus miles are award redeemable miles and there’s no need to register; the miles are automatically added to your account after you fly.

Base Miles + Class of Service bonus + Elite Status bonus + Additional Bonus Miles

Just purchase and fly on a First or Business Class ticket on American Airlines, US Airways or eligible partner flights marketed by American or US Airways* to earn the additional AAdvantage® bonus miles...

*Offer applies to AAdvantage members who purchase and fly on eligible published-fare First or Business Class tickets booked in F, A, P, J, R, D or I on flights marketed by American Airlines or US Airways (sold as an American or US Airways flight number), and operated by American Airlines, US Airways, British Airways, Iberia, Finnair, Japan Airlines or Qantas. See Terms and Conditions for more information.
Starting in 2015, additional bonus miles will be credited for paid first and business travel. Bonus miles are per segment, and based on the purchased fares. For AAdvantage members, bonus applies to AA or US-marketed flights operated by AA, US, BA, IB, AY, JL, or QF. For Dividend Miles members, bonus applies to AA or US-marketed flights operated by AA or US only. Below is a breakdown of the bonus miles, as described on aa.com: Your travel just got more rewarding:

AAdvantage Executive Platinum & Dividend Miles Chairman's Preferred:

  • First / Business Fare classes: F, A, P, C, J, R, D:
    • 12,000 bonus miles on longer flights*

Looks like more miles for longer flights with extra miles for J and F.

Helps close some of the gap, but still comes up short, on a $6K JFK-LHR, by about 20K miles (almost 40%) in my case. Nice to see that they recognize they have a deficiency though.

Just re-Google the headline and you'll get behind the paywall

This is probably something that's pretty easy for them to implement from an IT perspective until they see how things shake out with DL/UA.

Not a triple or quadruple RDM bonus but credit goes to FWAAA for getting the course of action right.

As structured this is a bit inelegant compared to purchase-priced based earning by elite level.

Yes, on AA. But I seem to recall that Z is currently a paid bucket for US.

According to USA Today, seemingly only if a codeshare

The 2015 bonus offer also applies to flights on partner-operated "codeshare" flights operated in conjunction with American and US Airways. American's partners include British Airways, Iberia, Japan Airlines, Qantas and Finnair, among others.

It could certainly be an interim step, both honoring Parker's original statement but opening the door to a more revenue-based system in, say, 2016.

Nice move, AA.

I like it much better than what DL and DL's copycat UA is doing next year.

Significant new class of service bonus email from AA

I think this is awesome. Email text below

Last week, we committed to investing $2 billion in your connectivity, productivity and comfort. And now, we're making the AAdvantage program even more rewarding.

In 2015, we'll be the only major airline that rewards your loyalty up to three times — that's miles for the distance you fly, the fare you buy and elite status. We've done the math: most people will earn more miles when flying American or US Airways — period.

Beginning January 1, you'll earn even more miles when you fly on a purchased First or Business Class ticket for travel through December 31, 2015, anywhere on our network or with select partners. As an AAdvantage Executive Platinum member, you'll earn up to 12,000 additional bonus miles per flight.

For example, if you purchase and travel on a First Class ticket between New York JFK and San Francisco, you can now earn more than 18,000 miles.

Base Miles Class of Service Bonus Miles Elite Status Bonus Miles Additional Bonus Miles Total Miles
2,586 + 1,293 + 2,586 + 12,000 = 18,465

Plus, there's no need to register; the bonus miles are automatically added to your account after you fly. Use your extra miles to get to your rewards faster, whether it's an upgrade, an award flight, an Admirals Club® membership or a hotel room for your vacation. You've earned it.

For us, it's not enough to be the largest airline in the world with an award‑winning loyalty program; we're going for great. Come along with us
