refund AA miles if I canceled an award ticket

I booked an award ticket last week, then I canceled my award ticket. Will AA refund my miles back?

Yes...if you call them back :)

No really, from my experience, you call to cancel the award flight, then possibly have to call back to request reinstatement of miles unless you had the agent do that when you called to cancel.

There's usually a charge to redeposit miles, $150. It may cost significantly more than that to buy the same number of miles.

You'll probably need to get the miles re deposited. Otoh, @:-) if you use the miles for the same itinerary within a year of originally booking it, there should be no cost to do that.

Then what can happen, like with me they lose both the refund of taxes and the charge for the deposit then manually put the points back when you call. Since the fee is double the taxes I'm patient to wait, and according to AA they are too.

They don't want to redo it due to the risk of duplicating things. Me neither
